How in the world are we supposed to ever have power for the foreseeable future?

MAGAts are taking a massive sledgehammer to this country. Who's going to stop them?

The voters? The corrupt SCOTUS striking down a key provision in the Voting Rights Act and enabling Republican gerrymandering is all but official. Very, very rarely does this court hand down a decision I agree with, and I'm at the point where I'd be pleasantly surprised if they told the felon he can't run again in 2028.

I'm seeing a bunch of MAGAs mocking us online saying we won't hold power for the rest of the century. I'm scared that'll be the case and it'll never swing back our way. What is so terrible about us, anyways?

The good news about is nothing lasts forever, and that will include MAGA, but I'm turning 34 next week, halfway to being a senior citizen. I sure hope I live long enough to see all the damage being undone.

Yes, I've underestimated trump because I overestimated the electorate.

I'm looking for optimism, and I don't know what can make me feel better. We might flip VA's governorship blue, keep New Jersey's governorship blue and pass Prop 50, but I feel like we're in the midst of just winning some battles in a war we're currently being brutalized in.

Trump is not omnipotent, and the states and the people are not powerless

Yes, evil, incompetence, corruption and destruction are rampant.

But no troops are currently deployed in Chicago or Portland.

There’s a No Kings March in a few days that will attract millions.

Yes, there are many races we will win despite gerrymandering and voter suppression.

It’s OK to be exhausted- just means you are human. Take a walk or call a friend.

To get those 5 sure Trumpublican seats in Texas, they reduced the margins in other Republican strongholds. And with the growing unpopularity of everything the regime is doing, I would bet that any Republican seat projected to be won by under 10, or even 15 points, is vulnerable

Once the economy is in recession, inflation is double digits, and millions have lost healthcare or have seen premiums double, issues like trans rights, immigration, and windmills will no longer be divisive polarizing issues.

Trump could end up being the Great Unifier, when his shitty economy unites the people against him, and no seat in congress will be 100% safe for Republicans .

That's the most effective way to keep hope alive.

As you get involved locally, you see up close good people doing good things, and you become aware that there is more going on, on the ground, then we ever hear about. It becomes less about them, and more about us.

There's much to connect with. Indivisible, your state or county Democratic party, or groups that are working to bridge divides, like Braver Angels or living room conversations, just to name a few. I think in-person work is more powerful, but you can also find things like the Card Campaign for Democracy.

As Tad Stoermer points out, Hope is the life's blood of resistance, as much as lies are the life's blood of authoritarians.

If we are going to turn the tide, we must not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by fear or fall victim to the lie that the MAGA forces are too powerful for us.

Finding ways to build our own virtuous cycle of hope and action is job one. Hope and action are contagious.

The only way we lose is by allowing ourselves to be immobilized by hopelessness and cynicism.

Don't mistake cynicism for realism. Hope that spurs action in the face of enormous challenges IS grounded in reality.

Ariella Elm's posts highlight some of what's happening and are a mainstay for me. You learn more about things people are doing. Some of which are great ideas to emulate.

"It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result."

I have a couple of organizations I volunteer with and it's always a good way to see the immediate impact and feel better about the world.

I take them as reasons to stay energized.

I believe about 25% of the non voters will vote in 2026, but the Democratic party needs to get out the word to the non voters that we really need their vote to save democracy.

We will become a plantation nation with a "for rent" population. Strong backs with simple brains to provide mercenaries or service workers, factory farms and resource extraction.
Exclusive enclaves set aside for the wealthy.
