Rep. @AOC : Let me tell you why a 1 year extension is laughable.

Rep. @AOC: Let me tell you why a 1 year extension is laughable. Republicans want to sign on to just one extra year of these ACA subsidies. You want to know why? Midterm elections. They want to extend these subsidies just a year extra so that people don't realize the dupe they're pulling on everyone, so that they can all reelect themselves and allow those things to expire the moment that they win reelection. I will not accept a measly one year extension of the ACA.

would also be an advantage for us in midterms if it comes to that. “We saved your healthcare in 2025 and will do it again in 2026, and improve coverage.”

Republicans will simply rescind anything they agree to which was forged from a compromise.

The art of breaking the deal.

The only solution is to throw them out of office.

The only way out is through.

And the Democrats might be wise to take a 1 year extension and hope to win the house and/or senate in 2026.

Bharat Ramamurti has a helpful rundown of what Democrats have to really get in order to pass a funding package. He correctly notes that the current Democratic counteroffer raises the vote threshold for rescissions to 60 votes, effectively blocking them. But he adds that Democrats need to raise the punishment for withholding or rescinding funds outside of the rescission process, such as by defunding Vought’s Office of Management and Budget in the event of illegal impoundments. And Democrats can statutorily increase who can sue over impoundment, breaking the runaround the Supreme Court is using to effectively bless the withholding of appropriated funds.

She's taken to leadership like a duck to water, and wears it with that rare combo of grace and strength (like trail mix, I take my metaphors mixed).
