More Articles Are Now Created by AI Than Humans

We observe significant growth in AI-generated articles coinciding with the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022. After only 12 months, AI-generated articles accounted for nearly half (39%) of articles published. The raw data for this evaluation is available here. (Google Sheet)
AI-generated Article Growth Has Plateaued
While AI-generated articles grew dramatically after ChatGPT launched, we do not see that trend continuing. Instead, the proportion of AI-generated articles has remained relatively stable over the last 12 months. We hypothesize that this is because practitioners found that AI-generated articles do not perform well in search, as shown in a separate study.
Lots more, including methodology are given at the link above.

(5,545 posts)I googled "How much water should a cat drink daily?"
The ai overview served up at the top said "10220 ounces per kg." This was obviously ridiculous. Then I realized that the artificial "intelligence" had misconstrued the to in "10 to 20".

Google is to be avoided. They are replacing search with AI results, people say, for the much worse.
Being so pervasive, AI is going to taint everything, and increasingly fed on its own output.
I ONLY use it to snag picture backgrounds for some of my memes and computer creations that are way beyond my ability to create from scratch, and sometimes it's hard to tell what's a photo or artwork and what isn't.

I live in the EU (Stockholm), so maybe Google Gemini AI yields different info for US-based users.

(3,664 posts)I found out that a wrestling show I was going to attend was going to run long, so I asked AI and it said it was going to be a four hour show, instead of two hours. This didn't sound right, so I went on another website, and someone connected with the promotion said it was only extended a half hour. Some time later I checked AI and then it had the right info.

I admit to using some pix as backgrounds, due to the enormous difficulty of creating my own, and I prefer real photos and art. It's easy enough for me to distinguish.
