Newsom: We were under the understanding that we were going to close I-5 â up to 80,000 vehicles tomorrow and Saturday. They seemed to have backed off of that. They were going to move forward with a display, but theyâre not clearly sharing that with state officials.

Despite initial concerns and reports from sources citing Governor Newsom, the U.S. Marines have officially stated that public highways will remain open during the live-fire demonstration at Camp Pendleton to celebrate the Marine Corps' 250th birthday.
Reports from some news outlets and political figures suggested that parts of the I-5 might be shut down due to a live-fire demonstration. Governor Newsom also expressed concern, stating his office had received little information about the event's safety plans, notes this YouTube video and The Desert Sun.
The U.S. Marines released a statement confirming that "no public highways or transportation routes will be closed".
