Newsom says the Trump admin appears to have backed off plans to close I-5 tomorrow and Saturday

Newsom: We were under the understanding that we were going to close I-5 — up to 80,000 vehicles tomorrow and Saturday. They seemed to have backed off of that. They were going to move forward with a display, but they’re not clearly sharing that with state officials.

The California I-5 will not be closed on October 18. Despite initial concerns and reports from sources citing Governor Newsom, the U.S. Marines have officially stated that public highways will remain open during the live-fire demonstration at Camp Pendleton to celebrate the Marine Corps' 250th birthday.

Reports from some news outlets and political figures suggested that parts of the I-5 might be shut down due to a live-fire demonstration. Governor Newsom also expressed concern, stating his office had received little information about the event's safety plans, notes this YouTube video and The Desert Sun.

The U.S. Marines released a statement confirming that "no public highways or transportation routes will be closed".
