Many of the 90 bodies of Palestinians returned to Gaza by Israeli authorities under the ceasefire deal showed signs of torture and execution, including blindfolds, cuffed hands and bullet wounds in the head, according to doctors accounts.
As part of the US-brokered truce, Hamas has handed over the bodies of some of the hostages who died during the course of the war, and Israel has transferred the bodies of two groups of 45 Palestinians killed during the fighting. The exchange was carried out through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Doctors at Nasser hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, which received the Palestinian bodies from the ICRC, said on Wednesday there was substantial evidence of beatings and summary executions, and that none of the bodies were identifiable.

Almost all of them had been blindfolded, and had been bound up and they had gunshots between the eyes. Almost all of them had been executed, said Dr Ahmed al-Farra, the head of Nasser hospitals paediatric department.

Bodies revealed they had been beaten. They were also returned unidentified, knowing that Gaza doesn't have the ability to do DNA testing because of Israel's banning the equipment. A doctor said that Israel knows the names of the victims but wanted to exacerbate family pain by returning them unidentified.

(57,775 posts)I haven't read about signs of torture on Israeli hostages, but it certainly is possible. You'll need to do your own homework

What youre talking about is the Oct 7th attack, not the state of the returned hostages.

(4,347 posts)So Israel tied up these people, blindfolded them, placed straps around their necks(?!), tortured them and at some point summary executed them. Most were civilians, some elderly.
There is no end to the war crimes and cruelty.
Israel kidnaps bodies too, from Gaza, not just live people as we knew?
Just how many bodies does Israel hold? According to Haaretz, something like 1500 in one of its prisons. Another figure I read is over 700 - some held for many years in refrigerators in Israeli torture camps, er prisons that Israel has refused to release to their families.
It's as if Israel is holding these dead Palestinians as hostages and bargaining chips for some future benefit or maybe just to torment their families. Or hide their crimes.
Of course this story about dead Palestinians Israel has returned will disappear in a few days and no one will follow up. These people will remain unknown, anonymous and forgotten by the world. Their families will never know what happened to them but will be tormented by the knowledge of what Israel does to its prisoners or those it captures.
Keep all this in mind as you read the wall-to-wall coverage of Israeli hostages, their personal stories and their suffering. If only the same respect and empathy were provided to all equally.

(4,347 posts)Around 100 known deaths since October 7th but likely many more. Israel is not accountable to anyone and does not allow Red Cross visits.
At the very least it should be determined if these people were prisoners in Israeli jails. There are still thousands of ordinary Palestinians including doctors, nurses, journalists that are still held in these prisons without charges and are at risk of serious harm or death.

(4,347 posts)Were they live prisoners after having been abducted from Gaza or abducted as corpses after having been killed in Gaza. I know that either way they ended up in Israeli prisons. The difference is that the apparent field executions in Gaza and corpse abduction are over now with the ceasefire- if it lasts - whereas the torment of prisoners continues. Seems to me if Israel is killing live prisoners in such a manner the world needs to know about it.
