The show is based on the memoir of real-life marine veteran Greg Cope White.
Today in thoroughly unsurprising but still pathetic news: The Trump administration took aim at Netflixs queer military show Boots, calling it woke garbage.
Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson slammed the hit coming-of-age series in an October 16 statement to Entertainment Weekly.
Under President Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth, the U.S. military is getting back to restoring the warrior ethos, Wilsons statement reads. Our standards across the board are elite, uniform, and sex neutral because the weight of a rucksack or a human being doesnt care if youre a man, a woman, gay, or straight.
Its not the worst opening one could imagine, especially given that Boots was inspired by real-life gay veteran Greg Cope Whites memoir The Pink Marine, which details his time serving in the Marines when being gay in the military was still illegal.
However, Wilson then added that Pentagon officials will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda, unlike Netflix whose leadership consistently produces and feeds woke garbage to their audience and children.

We just finished it last night. It's really quite an excellent show, and I'm happy to see it's doing so well. So guess what, Pentagon? It's going to do even better now!

(3,997 posts)There's a LOT of dick-wagging (figuratively) and aggressive, authoritarian bullshit going on.
But there's also TONS of cute bare butts and hot bods, if one likes that sort of thing
It's still very worth watching, and despite the protestations of the current fascist regime, the volume and content of LGBTQ-related "messaging" strikes just the right balance, IMHO, for a mainstream show such as this. One could imagine from the description of the show it might strike a cloying/preachy tone or be too on-the-nose, but it really does not. It's extremely deft in that regard, getting the message through without hitting the viewer over the head with it.
I recommend it

This military strategy was based on the belief that lovers would fight more fiercely to protect their partners and avoid shame, a concept influenced by philosophical ideas like those of Plato. The Sacred Band was a highly successful force, instrumental in Thebes' military dominance."

(3,997 posts)It's very powerful without being overtly preachy. I love it when shows pull off that vibe, and Boots definitely qualifies.
