When I moved to Wisconsin a while back I was surprised to find out that Supreme Court justices are elected rather than appointed. There are seven justices and they serve 10 year terms.
Let's not pretend for a minute that appointing a judge or having them face Senate confirmation is non-partisan. Its extremely partisan. It doesn't take long to find out that potential justices lie their asses off. There is no penalty for lying, apparently.
Did Justice Roberts tell the Senate that he is deeply racist? That he doesn't believe racism exists? That he doesn't find dictatorship particularly offensive? He is a snake. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
This conservative majority is allowing Trump to destroy democracy.
If we get our country back this is the first thing we must fix. We don't need MORE justices. We need justices who believe in upholding Constitutional Law.

Don't judges in that situation have to recuse themselves?

(14,344 posts)there should definitely be term limits. I would favor 15 years. Certainly no more. If that were the case, we'd long since have been rid of Clarence and Roberts. Not sure about Slimy Sammy because I don't remember who appointed him. And maybe the Chief Justice should be a rotating role of 5 years and they should draw lots.

And stupid shit like requiring an elected congressperson to be "sworn in" by the Speaker. But the stupidest shit of all is the electoral college and the undemocratic apportionment of senators. The senators thing gives the bumpkin states, full of dirt not people, way too much power.
