Live fire exercise canceled after premature detonation rains shrapnel in I-5

California Governor Gavin Newsom was proved right to close I-5 during a live firing of artillery over Interstate 5 the main, heavily traveled link between Los Angeles and San Diego. Falling shrapnel from a premature detonation hit California Highway Patrol and JD Vance party vehicles early in the exercise causing it to be cancelled, according to an article in The Guardian, ABC news and other outlet. Luckily, no one was hurt due to Newsom’s foresight.

They closed I-5 because of exactly this risk, and it ended up happening. But even after they closed the freeway, does this mean that there were CHP and JD Vance vehicles underneath the path of the projectiles which were being fired from the ocean? Why? Were they like, "Hey let's watch these munitions go flying over our heads, it'll be cool!"

Unless I'm reading this wrong, I guess my question is, why were the vice president's vehicles in the path of high explosives in the first place?

28. The CHP was doing its job. That section of the I-5 is a major chokepoint, for starters. People started making U-turns ...

…on the freeway to get to create an off-ramp out of an on-ramp. So the CHP blocked them with their own vehicles. They had already closed off 17 miles of freeway in all directions in an effort to keep commuters safe, and thank God they did — Trump spent about a week jerking Gov. Newsom around over whether live ammo would be used or not.

The people to blame are Trump, Vance, Hegseth, and the Marine commandant who couldn’t just say “Hell no, we do NOT fire howitzers over the heads of civilians in the US — Sir! “

Would like to point out that Trump's 'USMC birthday celebration' missile attack on California/I-5 was just another trumpian tantrum about No Kings Day, and a flat out lie

The USMC was officially founded, and it's 'birthday' is celebrated, on NOVEMBER 10. Easy for me to remember because an old school pal shares that birthday.

Seem to recall the criminal administration originally said it was going use a Navy ship* to shoot at CA to 'celebrate the Navy's birthday'. Guess some genius trump toady pointed out the USN's birthday was Oct 13, not the 18th, so they switched to the lesser known anniversary for the USMC as an excuse to let Trump be generalissimo as a distraction from No Kings Day.

Distraction failure. We the People did our thing; it was HUGE, peaceful, and well covered by the media. Also, we still remember that Trump has not fulfilled his campaign pledge to release the Epstein files. We are well aware that the taxpayers of AZ 7 are STILL without representation in the US House of Representatives because bully trump knows he is in the Epstein files and is hounding the Speaker to keep that 218th vote to from happening.

Unlike some people, those of us who actually pay attention and care about this democracy, and are willing to stand and defend it, can hold more than a single thought, a single marketing ploy de jour, in our heads at the same time. We will not be turned away from reality.

* The US Navy has an island or two off the California coast, safely away from civilians and infrastructure, that they use for firing practice. One would think the Sec of DEFENSE would know that and let the bogus POTUS know his scam was easily exposed.
