Together, the DU community has raised over $3.5 million in the last 10 years at ActBlue. Asking for $ for political candidates is part of what I do on the DU. Today I would like to introduce a friend of mine, Darin Tompkins. He is running for the Nebraska State Legislature in District 36 next year. Democrats are a minority in the legislature. We are lucky to have just enough votes, usually to filibuster bad legislation. That line of defense is always in danger of falling on election day. It is that razor-thin close of a margin.
I'm asking for small donations (as little as $3) to start Darin off with some start up $. I'm also asking for a R, and a reply to keep this visible for a few days.

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) - Another candidate for state legislature has entered their name into the race, this time for a seat representing the southern and western portions of Sarpy County.
Darin Tompkins, a leader at a Nebraska animal health vaccine manufacturing plant for 12 years, announced that he will be running for Nebraskas 36th district in a release sent Monday.
The seat is currently held by State Senator Rick Holdcroft, who was elected to the seat in 2022.
Tompkins, a South Dakota native that has lived in Nebraska for over 27 years, says his focus in the legislature will be relieving residents property tax burden.

(4,891 posts)So replying to a post keeps the post visible to the algorithm? I didn't realize that.

(12,706 posts)sorted by "Last Reply", which is the default. ("kick" and reply are synonymous).
Since this forum is General Discussion (GD), a very very busy forum relative to all others, it will quickly start sinking in the GD listing as new replies to other GD threads kick those threads to the top.
Whether kicked or not (i.e. whether there is a recent reply or not), it will stay visible (until it falls below page 30), it's just a matter of how far down the page it falls since it was last kicked. Or on what page it falls to (page 2, page 3, etc. all the way down to page 30).
"Visible" is a relative word, since not many people look at more than the first page.
Any post that sinks to below the bottom of page 30 becomes archived, and is no longer kickable, it will never show up in the regular forum listing again.
As I write this, the bottom of page 30 of GD has posts whose last reply is October 8, so it doesn't take long for this to happen in GD. In most forums, it takes months or years for a post to fall to page 30 and below.
As for what the archives are these days, I don't know how to access them.
Rec's also aid visibility, e.g.. I saw this post in the "Trending Discussions" section of the home page. "Trending Discussions" and "Greatest Discussions" get listed there because of the number of recs and how many recs are received in a certain time frame. There is also the "Greatest Discussions" page -- accessed by the "Greatest" tab, or at https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=greatest_threads

(24,271 posts)I have been in awe of your ongoing efforts to help advance the progressive cause for YEARS! If every Democrat worked as tirelessly as you do we would never lose another election - gerrymandering be damned!
