Tom Steyer is infuriating Democrats again - POLITICO https://share.google/jzCZbcmdNRkIVVvN8
"The warring over Steyers late-hour incursion into Democrats biggest campaign of the 2025 cycle reflects sharpening elbows among top officials in the Golden State as jockeying picks up ahead of next years race to succeed Newsom."
"Steyer, who kept a low political profile in California after his failed 2020 White House bid, unexpectedly burst back onto the scene with a self-financed pair of ads promoting the ballot measure just weeks before voters will weigh in on the maps redrawn by Democrats in response to mid-decade redistricting efforts in red states. His initial ad, which does not feature Steyer and instead portrays Trump angrily reacting to news of Prop 50s passage, raised eyebrows and generated speculation about his motives, including a possible bid for governor in 2026."

(662 posts)This isnt directed at you BP, just a little steam I have to vent. In the article, they use less bellicose words like irk and phrases like We do think the messaging could be improved and Its hard to see him single-handedly inserting himself into a campaign. Hardly what could be described as fury. There is hardly a story here. This infuriates me. No real examples or reasoning for anyones fury let alone democrats writ large. Just some anonymous grumbling about grandstanding and wanting to keep impeachment talk out of the ad strategy. I think as good Democrats we profit from knowing what is being said by our federal, state, and local leaders, but I really wish we spent more time analyzing the use of rhetorical and often misleading devices used by the press to frame issues.

(55,116 posts)then I heard this ad and I had to see who was supporting it. I'd almost forgotten about Tom.
I noticed that the Prop 50 ads I've been seeing were paid for by the CTA (CA Teachers Association). The reason I remember this is due to the fact that this was MY union as a teacher.
"The CTA Issues PAC has contributed $3 million to the campaign supporting Proposition 50.
Other major labor unions, including the California Nurses Association, have also contributed substantial funds to the effort."

(4,024 posts)stop Trump. Vote yes on 50 and piss off the asshole. Keeping it simple. It works for lots of Dems who don't really keep up with all the political news, but hate Trump.

(54,358 posts)The echoes of Steyer using impeachment to raise his profile have incensed Democrats who argue Steyer is selfishly muddling the campaigns message and veering into a more politically perilous topic. Public polling has put the measures support in mid-50s, offering little margin for error to pull off a win in a tight time frame.
The lawmaker said people are actively urging Steyer to reconsider his approach. Were not sure why hes so obsessed with promoting himself, the member said. This is bigger than him. This is about democracy.
