"Cheerleaders" means something very different in the current context.

Specifically, it refers to the diehard defenders of sluggish mediocrity who are so quick to pounce when anyone has the audacity to hope that elected Democrats do something more substantive than strongly worded letters in response to Trump's daily and expanding assault on the nation.

The cheerleaders typically scold the critics for not doing more than the elected Democrats, as if we were all elected and all took oaths to defend the Constitution.

Overall, the defining characteristic of a cheerleader is that they will attack fellow DUers by ridicule, insult, gatekeeping and gaslighting simply for having the nerve to question the status quo that brought us here.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
