Rep. Michael Bost (R-IL) has challenged an Illinois law which allows delayed mail-in ballots as long as they are postmarked by Election Day and received within two weeks. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and other critics have warned that permitting candidates to sue over potential vote outcomes could weaken the judiciary’s neutrality in elections. The Supreme Court is hearing arguments in the case, which may impact future election laws.
