More than 50 federal agents fanned out in the heart of Lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, brushing past confused tourists and pedestrians to detain several men near Canal Street and quickly drawing dozens of protesters to the streets.
The Department of Homeland Security described the operation as focused on criminal activity relating to selling counterfeit goods.
.... News of the raid spread quickly on social media, leading protesters to show up and chase some of the federal agents down Lafayette Street as they traveled to the ICE offices at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan. More federal agents showed up in tactical gear, along with an armored vehicle, leading to a chaotic scene as agents pushed back protesters.
.... The officers, from an array of federal agencies, detained several men who were standing on Church and Lispenard Streets, asking for their IDs and whisking them away into vans parked nearby, according to witnesses."

Meet the content creators whose videos from Portland and Chicago shape the presidents distorted view of reality
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/16/rightwing-influencers-trump-antifa
Last weeks White House roundtable on antifa was an odd affair, mainly because the supposed experts who briefed Donald Trump on antifascism were rightwing influencers who make a living filming themselves confronting leftwing protesters.
Videos of protests in Portland and Chicago produced by these conservative content creators have long shaped the presidents distorted view of reality.
Although the influencers all describe themselves as independent journalists, they all frame leftwing protesters as nefarious or ridiculous in their videos, and eight of the 11 are current or former employees of Turning Point USA, the conservative advocacy organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
.... Their job, the extremism researcher Jared Holt said on his podcast, is to make these viral clips that they can show on Fox News and scare your grandpa into thinking antifa is on the verge of a mass slaughter, and that Mr Trump is the only man who can put an end to this by sending the military to go crack some skulls.
This is in the NYT article ...
"Nick Shirley, who identifies himself as an independent journalist and who met with President Trump at the White House this month for a round table on Antifa, posted a video from Canal Street on Sept. 25 titled: I Confronted Dangerous Migrant Scammers in NYC."
