The wealthy racist sexist authoritarians need opiates for the masses. They can impose just about anything on Christian Americans - and raise up a citizen militia - if they believe the Church will control all three branches of government.
What better way to make that point than to build a church next to the White House that will dwarf it - a building with a huge central open space?
