The GOP Congress is "perfectly" happy to collect their pay and perks while people are starving or dying from lack of access to health care or shelter.

All these perfect Christians truly believe 90% of the American people need assistance or are poor from poor choices, and they all need to have their "foolish" ideas about freedom and independence from the proper order of things beaten out of them.
The rarely spoken feeling is that the American general population are either stupid or criminals, and really don't deserve anything they can't pay for.

And system collapse will occur. Many companies are running debt on the promise the government will pay them. This won't continue forever.

They have no money to give. They are writing exception letters. Eventually companies can only be so leveraged. Once that point hits, furloughs occur. The longer it goes, the more furloughs occur.

Either the Dems will cave and the shutdown will end, or they will stay the course, the subsidies will expire and the republicans will cave.

It will be over by the new year, probably sooner.

We don't have a functional House of Representatives.

Article 1, Section 5
Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting.

Unfortunately, there's no mechanism for the American people to call it a failed government and hold a new election.
