Trump didn't just commute Santos' sentence, he ripped off all the people the republican congressman stole from

Donald Trump let disgraced fraudster George Santos off the hook for cheating vulnerable people and taxpayers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars because he would "ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICAN." But a Republican local prosecutor with a power to prosecute Santos in state court may see it differently. Nassau County voters are outraged that Santos can keep the money he stole from his victims, calculated at more than $370,000 in restitution and more than $200,000 in forfeiture. With elections coming up, Nassau County's incumbent District Attorney, a Republican, won't rule out further investigation of Santos.

Adam Klasfeld of All Rise News explains.

(excerpt)

...Here is the text, the exact text of Trump's executive grant of clemency. It calls for quote an immediate commutation of his entire sentence to time served with no further fines, restitution, probation, supervised release, or other conditions.

So, he waves it all away. He washes it all away. He was ordered to pay more than $370,000 in restitution. Gone. Ordered to pay roughly $200,000 in forfeiture. Gone.

My understanding is pardons cannot remove financial penalties, only incarceration. (I believe this was true for the pardoned J6ers- some are demanding there fines to be paid back)

Santos’ sentence was commuted, so he was released as time served.

Any reputable sources confirming he’s not responsible for restitution?

I know the text of Trump’s pardon says no fines, but I would be surprised if that goes unchallenged.

In any case, there should be state suits filed imminently.

...lawsuits notwithstanding, unless you know different.

The op is correct, I believe, The fucker went beyond just pardoning a party member.

Adam Klansfeld isn't some fringe reporter.

IT has gone FAR beyond the intention as a check on Judicial Power, to a pure tool of corruption and obstruction. The former is not at all served by the abuse we've seen.

The Founders never envisioned unchecked corruption on this level.

And yes, there have also been pardons by Democratic Presidents that were very sketchy.
