FBI arrests Miami Heat player Terry Rozier in sports betting scandal

Cash doing the Lord’s work… /s

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46695228/sources-terry-rozier-arrested-part-gambling-inquiry

Sportsbooks in multiple states flagged suspicious betting interest on Rozier's statistics ahead of a Charlotte Hornets-New Orleans Pelicans game on March 23, 2023. An unexpected surge of bets -- including 30 wagers in 46 minutes from a professional bettor totaling $13,759 -- came in on the under on Rozier's points, rebounds and assists, causing sportsbooks to halt betting on the veteran guard.

A thing anymore? Every game on tv advertises gambling. Even ESPN has a sports book. Guess Kash cow needs to show the people he's capable of fighting some sort of "crime", even if it's only illegal in some minds.

He modified his performance, in this case by leaving the game early with an 'injury'. The bets were made that he wouldn't get a specific number on multiple stats, which he didn't due to leaving after 10 minutes.

Its essentially insider trading.

His only real defense would be if he can prove the injury was real and that he wasn't in contact with the person placing those bets.

Point shaving and fixing have been a problem since gambling became a thing.

The 1919 world series for example.

30 bets in 46 minutes from one person on one player's stats on one game seems like a giant red flag.

Former NBA player Damon Jones was also arrested in Las Vegas as part of the investigation, an FBI spokesperson told NBC News.

Rozier, a 10-year NBA veteran, reportedly had been eyed for months over suspicious sports betting activity related to his play.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, and FBI Director Kash Patel are scheduled to hold a press conference on the cases on Thursday morning.
