'That's Another Problem': Cuomo Seems to Agree After Radio Host Says Mamdani Would 'Be Cheering' a Terror Attack

Just two days before early voting starts in the New York City mayoral race, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo seemed to agree with a radio host who suggested that Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani would be “cheering” if a terrorist attack occurred.

“That job is a scary job. You wake up as mayor, you wake up as governor, any morning there’s a prison uprising, there was just a mass shooting, there’s Legionnaires’ disease, there’s gonna be a fiscal collapse, Wall Street’s moving to doubt. Any given morning there’s a crisis,” Cuomo said on Sid Rosenberg’s “Sid & Friends In The Morning.”

“And people’s lives are at stake—God forbid another 9/11, can you imagine Mamdani in the seat?” Rosenberg replied, “I could. He’d be cheering.” “That’s another problem,” Cuomo said. “But can you imagine that? If Mamdani was in the seat on 9/11, what would have happened in this city?”

Mamdani called Cuomo’s remarks “disgusting” when asked about the interview on PIX11 News that same day. “This is Andrew Cuomo’s final moments in public life and he’s choosing to spend them making racist attacks on the person who would be the first Muslim to lead this city,” Mamdani said.

“Frankly it’s not about me,” he continued. “It’s about the fact that there are more than 1 million Muslims who live in New York City, and to have our faith be smeared and slandered by someone who at one point was considered a leader in the Democratic Party showcases the fact that bigotry and racism is not exclusively a Republican problem; it is also a problem within our own Party and it is time that we turn the page on Andrew Cuomo, and those that would tolerate this kind of rhetoric from him as well.”

After Remark About Mamdani and Sept. 11, Cuomo Faces Democratic Rebukes

When a radio host suggested that Zohran Mamdani would celebrate another Sept. 11-style attack, Andrew Cuomo chuckled. Democrats denounced the exchange as Islamophobic.

Former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo laughed along with a conservative radio host on Thursday who said that Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim mayoral candidate, would celebrate another Sept. 11-style terrorist attack on New York City. Within hours, the exchange ricocheted across the campaign trail, where Mr. Mamdani and a cross-section of Democrats denounced the conversation as Islamophobic and outside the bounds of even a heated campaign.

The episode began as part of a friendly interview between the radio host, Sid Rosenberg, and Mr. Cuomo, who is openly courting Republican votes as he attempts to catch Mr. Mamdani in the polls before Nov. 4. Mr. Cuomo, 67, had been arguing that Mr. Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker and Democratic nominee, was dangerously unprepared to lead a city as large as New York through events like natural disasters or the deadly Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

“God forbid another 9/11,” he said. “Can you imagine Mamdani in the seat?” Mr. Rosenberg, who had already referred to Mr. Mamdani as a “terrorist,” interjected. “Yeah, I could,” he said. “He’d be cheering.” After a brief pause, Mr. Cuomo chuckled. “That’s another problem,” he said.

At a news conference in Manhattan, Mr. Mamdani called the exchange “disgusting” and an affront to the city’s sizable Muslim population, which was subject to surveillance and Islamophobia in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. “We’re talking about a radio show host who’s described me as an animal, who’s called me a terrorist,” he said. “We’re speaking about a former governor who, in his final moments in public life is engaging in rhetoric that is not only Islamophobic, not only racist, is also disgusting, and is his final closing argument with less than two weeks before Election Day.”

he's getting for his audacity. His last stunt was when he was given five minutes at Madison Square Garden at the Trump rally last year. He loves the idea of being a king maker and influencer. As he admits he can't get his show syndicated and has to remain local, anything like getting his name in "the papers" is all good in his mind. Maybe his own show on FOX.

If you're going to go down, at least go with honor.

Like John McCain did.
