Their counterparts don't last long.

(10,164 posts)And there's not even any point arguing about which side is worse about posting irrational, overheated twaddle. It doesn't matter.

Thug? lol, hardly.

(55,476 posts)No one is flat out saying we should get rid of all guns...that's just your brain on LaPierre.
We just want regulation, registration and reason
You want dead school children. Your extension, in your mind, is more valuable than children's lives. I got it.
TheMoreYouKnow
(63 posts)while trying to claim the high road and say that nobody is calling for all guns to be gone when it happens here every hour?
The lives of my wife and children are ALWAYS more valuable than the lives of anyone trying to cause them physical harm, do you get that or is that too hard for you to comprehend?

(55,476 posts)You will never need it
Putting a light outside your door will do way more to deter intruders than your gun will
BTW - did you just join DU so you could yell at Democrats who value human life?

(12,072 posts)In my small town of about 2,500 people we have had murders. About four years ago a young couple's home was invaded and they were knifed to death. A few months after that, another young couple was clubbed to death in their own home.
My own wife has twice used her concealed handgun to prevent herself from being mugged. Since she, like me, is a senior citizen, she my well not have survived the mugging. When the would be mugger saw that she was armed he turned around and fled. The second incident was at the same place, same time of day, same story, but a different day.
Violent crime really does happen, and being armed really can give you the tool to not be a crime statistic.

(17,493 posts)One poster called all gun owners "terrorists" recently.
The recent fad of insulting gun owners is largely due to emotion over the tragic recent massacres in theaters and schools. Such emotion is entirely understandable.
But I've been posting here for several years and if I had a dollar for every time that I was insulted I could buy myself a brand new S&W revolver or a Glock. (I own a fair number of S&W revolvers but have never owned a Glock pistol as while they are very accurate and reliable they have a grip that doesn't fit my hand.)
To be a gun owner and post in favor of gun rights it's best to have a thick skin. I personally enjoy truly original insults but they are rare here. I don't trade insult for insult and do my best to be polite and use facts and statistics to support my views. Of course they are labeled as "NRA talking points" and are consequently ignored. The sad part is that facts are facts and statistics from the FBI or the Bureau of Justice Statistics are not funded by the NRA.

(1,277 posts)Yeah, when people see 20 children murdered while the other side of the argument is as obtuse as ever they tend to get a tad upset.
TheMoreYouKnow
(63 posts)is met with nothing but childish insults and attacks. Our right to protect our homes and our families with a self defense firearm is protected by the US Constitution, not members of DU and their opinions. I don't own an "assault weapon" nor do I see the need to own one but that hasn't stopped some people here from labeling me as a child murderer simply because I choose to protect my family and home with a semi-automatic handgun.

(913 posts)If the argument is as narrowly defined as "guns are bad", "no they're not" then that's not really going to get us anywhere.
Lanza's walking into that school and shooting 20 kids did not happen in a vacuum, there are a lot of other things that should be addressed than just guns.
The guns speak to the how, but not the why and if the why.
Unfortunately, it has become apparent that we are not allowed to talk about poor parenting, bad schools, video games, mental illness, anger, our violent society or anything else that may have led this shooter (and the others before him) to do this, so all we are left to yell at each other about is guns and neither side is going to win the argument which doesn't sit well with people who like to win arguments and have the last word on everything.

(55,476 posts)Seriously - I've shot guns before and it's really not that exciting.
Are you saying that is the ONLY reason you have a gun? To shoot paper targets?
And why do you need that many weapons? You only have two hands!
jal777
(59 posts)I have tried yoga I don't like it. I have tried tofo and it tastes like crap to me. You don't think guns are exciting, well thats your opinion and it wont change my mindset. My point is that we all have opinions. I shoot paper to practice my shooting. I shoot clay birds to practice my shotgun skills.

(12,958 posts)I shoot guns at paper targets and nobody has ever called me a killer. I am for registration and regulation and I have owned guns my whole life.
I don't understand why some people have to act like chicken little at the mere thought of rational gun laws.

(24,310 posts)I have neither the time nor the inclination to attempt to explain to you something which you probably already know. But just for shits and giggles ... #1 there are long time DU progressives who owns guns; #2 there are newbies seeking instant righteous lefty cred who post stupid shit about the DUers mentioned in #1. (But it doesn't get really funny until the DUers mentioned in #2 pretend that they are under attack from the Duers mentioned in #1.)
If you are this desperately in need of validation, may I suggest a Rescue Lab?

(24,310 posts)mandatory registration, and a variety of other gun control laws. But, you see, I actually own guns, so I must be on the other side of the "gun owners vs rational" argument. Now, I'm also "hopped up on LaPierre", a man for whom I have no respect whatsoever.
Fuck it, maybe the real gun nuts are right, and there's no room for discussion.

(26,624 posts)fact the latest government report.
"Gun Control Legislation by CRS (Nov 14, 2012) reports
- from 1994 to 2007, firearm number increased from 192 million to 294 million.
- from 1994 to 2007, Firearms-Related Murder Rate decreased from 6.6 to 3.9.
FBI reports "Knives or cutting instruments" commit 13.3% of murders, "Hands, fists, feet, etc." 5.7% and Rifles and Shotguns 5.4%.
Why do those who believe guns create crime ignore "Knives or cutting instruments" and "Hands, fists, feet, etc." ?
