Anyone else having these problems? Existing account no longer works. Now I have to take photos of my ID and myself, and possibly go to my local PO????

(61,875 posts)I checked mine last night (since my SS is going to start in Jan - age 70! - I log in to see progress on my application) and it was fine.
A user name and password is needed - and a code texted to my cell each time.

(4,734 posts)I needed to set up an IDme account to get into my SS account.
Thank goodness I keep a spreadsheet of all my passwords - this is getting overwhelming!

(26,525 posts)Definitely a change...they require more proof of identity now!
I have a password vault for my passwords. (1st one at link): https://www.ebay.com/shop/password-safe-reczone?_nkw=password+safe+reczone
Has really simplified my life!

(1,265 posts)An authentication system that you can use for multiple government sites. Theyve made it the standards method of authentication in order to cut down on identification theft and fraud. Once you set it up you can just use username and password.

(151,430 posts)It will log you in after sending you a code in either email or as a text. You enter the code and you're in.
I don't know about the other method. I think that's what's causing the delay.

(26,525 posts)Yeah, I did try it. I found I still needed to upload my DL and a photo?
The old method (just use email address to log in) no longer works. At least not for me.
Thanks! I finally did get in.

That's what I've been using for 7 years.

(6,179 posts)I did not know that they now made it mandatory. This is a problem.
They don't need a selfie and a pic of our drivers licenses to do their "work" w/ regards to our benefits.
I want to hear more about this supposed requirement.
Thanks for alerting us.
I may reach out to my Senator (who has been highlighting issues at the SSA) to find out more.
