That's how stupid a majority of the American electorate are.
I refuse to accept that.

(72,163 posts)Until 2024, I had hope that we werent really so utterly debased and immoral as to put him in the White House a second time.
I no longer have any hope at all. We are a malfunctioning septic tank of a country, and were not likely to ever change.

(10,268 posts)Thats when the propaganda and psy-ops started by Republicans. It turned from the hippies being popular and dont trust anyone under 30 and the younger population being idealistic and listened to. Then, Reagan and greed is good became popular.

Trump may leave a legacy as The Great Unifier, the president who united the nation (well 80% anyway) against him.

That's probationary, not a mandate.

(30,461 posts)It's hardly "White America" in toto or even
"White America" only, so can we lose the group scapegoating?.. I hope so, because if you go that route, you'll have to include "Male America" too.

(10,833 posts)Over 70% of total US voters are white, so the number mean something.

(156 posts)White people, however, could stop this nonsense any time they chose to. They choose not to.
Funny that, innit?

(30,461 posts)Of course they are...Maybe they should hold a "White People's Convention" to straighten it all out...After that, we might eliminate Misogyny by holding a "Male People's Conference".

(2,293 posts)White people are individuals. They become very upset if you try to blame the election of trump on the group. 65% of white men that voted , voted for trump and many young white men voted for trump. But everyone else belongs to a group like Hispanics, blacks and Pacific Islanders. You would not believe the conversations Ive had about how could black men vote for trump.

(10,833 posts)serious problems to vote for this Republican Party. Maybe better to say "That is how immoral, unethical, deplorable the plurality of the American electorate is"? Is that more accurate?

(20,571 posts)Im noting the irony. Its not that deep. That being said, the OP seems to be very offended about someone pointing out the objective fact that a majority of white voters voted for Trump. Not sure why that simple fact is so upsetting to them. Kinda weird.

(5,545 posts)And Greg Palast has shown that more than three million people were disenfranchised through Republican skullduggery.
So really I think that it is about one third of the electorate who are either enthusiastic about authoritarianism (80%) or willing to accept it (20%) if it what is necessary to keep them in charge.
The problem for the Democratic party is that when the apathetic and ignorant third start to wake up they won't understand how things have gotten so bad. The Republican propaganda machine will be ready to spew hateful lies. The Democratic party needs to be ready with the truth.

(3,486 posts)Trumps moronic supporters do.
Trump Cult members think hes funny, they adore him because hes not like any other politician, they respect that he says whats on his mind, no matter how idiotic, wrong, or dangerous.
As to the OP agree somewhat, in that the likes of Trump is the consequence of the voters ignorance, fear, and stupidity, where it could indeed happen again.

(214 posts)If you want to learn how to win, take notes from Zohran Mamdani.
Dems are still campaigning like it's 2004, while Trump caught up with the times 9 years ago.
walkingman
(10,833 posts)he has ever done (exception being POTUS - he has made more money with his corruption that anytime in his life). He does understand that a large segment of the US population is just like him and know how to tap into the "victim" mentality.
I do think that Mamdani more represents the progressive wing of the Dem party but the reality is that in the Bible Belt and Flyover country people are just not as progressive (more moderate) and because white America makes up over 70% of the electorate it will take a united coalition in order for us to win.
I think the biggest thing we have going for us will be similar to what happened after the George W Bush administration....he was so bad that whomever is the Dem candidate will win. That is if we are actually able to have free and fair elections in another 3 years - that is a big if.
Meanwhile......

(108,719 posts)Yes, government is boring. Yes, facts are boring. Yes, democracy is boring. But you know what? Congress is not supposed to be a fucking WWE steel cage death match, and the president is *NOT* supposed to be a blundering buffoonish reality TV show host who may be a serial pedophile. Stop watching garbage sources and boycott all mass media. It's what is currently ruining this country. People watch Fox. They believe it.

(20 posts)But Trump rejected the possibility of running for vice-president in 2028 - an idea floated by some supporters as a way for him to circumvent the US constitution that bars the president from running for a third term.
Speaking to reporters during his trip to Asia, Trump described the idea as "too cute" and said it "wouldn't be right".
It is unclear what method he would use to run again. Last week, former Trump strategist Steve Bannon said that a "plan" was in place to secure the 79-year-old president another term.
