A cellophane bag on the sea floor. He invested heavily in a recovery venture, got duped, sued and lost twice. Rachel Maddow had a segment on it a while back. A google search indicates that he inherited billions but is financially inept. The New York Times has a 7/28/24 article on the Earhart story but its for paid subscribers. Timothy Mellon is an 83 year old trust fund fool.

(179 posts)I had a brain fart. Totally didn't think of cellophane.
In my defense I was thinking anything is possible when RFK Jr makes a conspiratorial claim.

(2,431 posts)...because it took awhile to make cellophane not only transparent, but moisture-proof, needed for most food wrappings. (Before that, it had been mostly used to wrap Whitman's Sampler candies.)
In 1934, cellophane was one of the neat things mentioned in the song, "You're the Top"...which is now stuck in my head.
Thanks, Wikipedia!

I think because it's based on cellulose, like rayon (a sort of natural fiber, albeit chemically produced), it's not actually plastic.
