Suppose Democrats win control of Congress and the presidency in 2028, Easley wrote on PoliticusUSA, a left-leaning news website.
In that case, the next Democratic president will have to make fixing the damage Trump has done to the country and our system of government a priority It would not be surprising if Democrats do well in the midterms, people like Pam Bondi and Kash Patel resign before they can be slapped with subpoenas.
Republicans currently hold a slim majority in the House, with 219 Republicans versus 213 Democrats. In the Senate, Republicans have 53 members, and Democrats, 45, though the two independent senators Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Angus King (I-ME) caucus with Democrats.
Historical election data shows that the party occupying the White House has lost ground in 20 of the past 22 midterm elections dating back to 1938. Additionally, the severity of the election loss has been shown to correlate heavily with the incumbent presidents popularity, and with Trump having the lowest 100-day approval rating in 80 years, Easley argued Democrats could very well win back control of Congress, and with that control, the power of the subpoena.

Not really a surprise.

(23,456 posts)The next presidential elections (in '27 - not today, as Trump seems to believe) will likely usher in a center-left (probably Peronist-led) coalition - such that many RW expats are likely to leave.
Interestingly, there've been a few YouTube RW'ers who moved to Argentina when the center-left Alberto Fernández was still in office (Jake Runnels, and 'Economic Front' Tanner from Montana, for instance) - but have since left as they've watched their costs in dollars balloon.
Goes to show that right-wing economics doesn't even work for right-wingers - especially in Argentina.

(53,540 posts)to have an escape plan though. Most of them look like they are reactive and impulsive, spending money like a drunken sailor. History could tell them that there is little chance that they will have much of a future in government. Their fifteen minutes is almost over.

(53,540 posts)come up with some of their crap. Many of them do have street-smarts, much like Trump does, but few know how to play the long game. They are often distracted by all the shiny baubles and perks. I remember the way members of his cabinet in his first term spent large sums of money on the most ridiculous stuff.

There is so much going on behind the scenes that we may not know for a long time, if ever.

Diabolical but fascinating.
We may never know everything going on.

(53,540 posts)As it is clear that the aging Trump probably doesn't have many good years ahead of him. If something should happen and Vance becomes president, I don't think he'll have much use of Miller. I'm sure Miller has few supporters in the administration.

(8,821 posts)Even if Patel and Bondi resign, they can still be served with subpoenas. If we do win in 2026, we can start documenting everything by having congressional investigations. That should generate enough material to prosecute past 2028. I would hoipe that we would go after lower-level people too instead of just at the top. Trump may be immune, but others are not. If we start going after people who enabled the whole thing, they will think twice before this happens again.
Those that we cannot convict, we should ostracize and ensure they never get a job again. For example, the press secretary Katherine Lewitt.

Problem solved. Nobody needs to flee; Trump does not face impeachment for his crimes.
