? For DU Admins- who decides posts?

Hi
So I’m trying to post an ad that is pro Charlie Kirk that shows up on the top of my DU feed.
1. Why does this ad show up?
2. Why can’t I post a screenshot of this?

The ads that you personally see on DU will not be the same as the ads that other people see, and that is because we are not paid to show specific ads, we are merely paid to provide space for ads to be shown. The ads that show up in the spaces we provide are personalized to the viewer, at least to the best of the ability of the algorithms that advertisers use to determine such things.

If you are someone who visits a lot of political sites, then you will likely get served political ads. But the algorithms are often not very good at determining what kind of politics you are interested in. For example, if you visit a right-wing news site or social media page just to check in on what the wingnuts are saying, then they may assume that you are interested in right-wing news, even if you're not. Or if you happened to read a lot of threads about Charlie Kirk on DU, they might assume that you want to see even more Charlie Kirk content. As you can see, context is important, and ad algorithms unfortunately don't seem to be very good at context.

It is possible for us to block ads after the fact -- if we're provided with the specific source of the ad -- but unless the ad is outside the bounds of our ad provider's terms of service (which can happen from time to time), we usually don't feel it's necessary to do this. Otherwise we'd be playing whac-a-mole with ads all day, and as I mentioned, the ads that you see when you visit DU might not even be the same as the ads that other people see.

With regards to posting a screenshot, there is no image uploading on DU for posts, so you have to upload your image to a third-party service such as imgbb.com, imgur.com, postimages.org, etc. After uploading to the service, you'll be given a URL which you can then paste into your DU post, and your image will appear when you preview or post your message. When pasting the URL into your DU post, make sure that it ends in either .jpg, .gif, or .png, or the image will not appear.
