I think someone is intentionally circulating false information on Mike Johnson.

I posted yesterday what I found on Facebook and TikTok that the information claimed it was Jasmine Crocket who had accused Mike Johnson's wife of having a hidden LLC. You can see that post here:

Today on Facebook, now they're claiming Rachel Maddow said it on her show. So, sadly, I have to reach the conclusion it's fake, unless someone can produce a real clip.

find it anywhere. So, I would rather not drag DU into a potential psy-ops situation where someone is intentionally trying to put doubt into Leftie news.

...account for the conflict of interest have been narrated. I have seen no clip in which Crockett herself is shown speaking of these things. With each clip I've seen my doubt on its authenticity grows. There does seem to be a more deliberate assault on the truth of late.

The tricky part is whose name/law firm/accountant it's under.

That's where I'd start.

Sure as fuck wouldn't trust a goddamn thing ANYONE says on tv.

6. My advice

If your source is Facebook or TikTok, your first assumption should be that the information is bullshit.

If the Facebook or TikTok post claims to be from a reliable source, do a web search for the same info. If the info is true, you should immediately find a link to the info's original source. If you can't find a link to the original source immediately, it's bullshit.

If I go to DuckDuckGo and search rachel maddow mike johnson wife llc then if the story is true, there should be a link to MSNBC or Maddowblog at the top of the results. However, when I search the term above, the top two results are Facebook, and then this DU thread.

Below that in the search results, the information is also posted on YouTube by "Political Wave" and on a Colombian website called "PRIMETIMER." I see no links to any reliable sources at all.

My advice to everyone would be to do a quick search to make sure that information you want to share is reported by at least one reliable source before reposting content from Facebook and TikTok.

the information is left uncorrected once the poster discovers that the information is likely not true -- that way, the misinformation continues to spread. In your original post you've corrected the information and made clear that you're pretty sure it's fake news, so I think that's the most important thing.

In fact, it's probably better to leave it up with the correction than self-delete the post. This way, more people will likely learn that the information is false. As mentioned, this very thread debunking the story is currently the second result on DuckDuckGo if you search for rachel maddow mike johnson wife llc, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

that said Jasmine Crockett was suing someone for defamation (can't recall who). I thought that was great and liked the post, then googled. NADA. unliked, moved on.

sigh.
