(3,302 posts)That Monster has sustained winds of 175 MPH... Jesus Christ! And I live in Florida and used to 100-125... Geez

(11,277 posts)Gusts of 100. Sustained winds of 80+. We have an oak tree in the front yard and branches were slapping the ground. How that tree didn't uproot I'll never know. 175mph would have taken our roof off. Hoping everyone in the islands makes it through OK.

I'll take any good news at this point!

(297,921 posts)That said - We wont get the worst of it in this part of St Andrew.
Many others will face the worst experience of their lives.
I'm periodically checking reports and the situation is dire. Just this second I hear that if the storm continues to move West, part of the island will be essentially safe. But the wind speeds being reported are terrifying.
Anyhow, just know we're all holding y'all in our thoughts and minds.

I would like to point out that this thing vividly shows the unpredictability of hurricanes and the extremely serious nature of a slow moving hurricane.
The track looks like my handwriting when I'm asleep.

(7,712 posts)Hopefully the high mountains can disrupt the circulation as it gets closer to Jamaica.
But that means it may dump rain toward the coasts. God bless.

(21,021 posts)Knowing how unpredictable these things can be. Had a look at the weather maps this morning and thought it was perhaps moving a little bit away from Jamaica.
Thinking of you.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
