Which party?

Hakeem Jeffries started his endorsement in the NY Mayoral elections with this sentence:

"I deeply respect the will of the primary voters." But which primary? Of which party?

I personally have wondered, in the past nine years, why individuals who do not consider themselves Democrats are welcomed to compete in Democratic primaries.

In both New York and in Minneapolis the next mayors may be members of the DSA - Democratic Socialist America.

When Democrats use the term Socialism, they often mean social democracy along Scandinavian lines. DSA’s official platform is committed to socialism in the classic sense—public ownership of the means of production, updated for the information age.

To end exploitation and achieve liberation, the DSA calls for the nationalization of railroads, utilities, critical manufacturing, technology companies, institutions of monetary policy, insurance, real estate and finance. The DSA also calls for public ownership of hospitals and other healthcare providers. It also urges government control of food production with a call to “socialize the agricultural system.” Finally, it calls for “social ownership” of the media and internet providers.

Is this where our party is heading?

i think that many on these pages agree with this platform but do the rank and file?

There is a lot of talk about our message, to sharpen it, to make it clear, to reach many voters.

The 2026 Midterm campaign starts in less then two weeks: November 5. What is our message?

I want to add about "defunding the police" which is part of the DSA platform. This idea was publicized in Minneapolis after the murder of George Floyd but failed when placed on a ballot.

I was thinking of this when, two months ago, when someone was shooting at children at their church, I read this description at the Minnesota Star Tribune:

"The first 911 calls came in at 8:27 a.m. Inside the church, McAdaragh (a father present) watched the principal rush toward the gunfire and lock a door. Some groups ran to the basement and hid in a classroom.

The first Minneapolis police officer on the scene burst in just a few minutes after it all began.

“Where’s the shooter?” he shouted, then, without hesitation, ran to where parents pointed."

Without hesitation ran toward the shooter. Thankfully, the Minneapolis police, while still short stuffed is funded.
