Doctors Muffled as Florida Moves to End Decades of Childhood Vaccination Mandates

Last edited Mon Oct 27, 2025, 09:02 PM - Edit history (1)

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Florida plans to end nearly a half-century of required childhood immunizations against diseases that have killed and maimed millions of children. Many critics of the decision, including doctors, are afraid to speak up against it.

With the support of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, MD, PhD, on Sept. 3 announced his plan to end all school-age vaccination mandates in the state.

"Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery," he told a cheering crowd of vaccination foes in Tallahassee. "Who am I, as a government or anyone else," he said, "to tell you what you should put in your body?"

History shows that mandates increase the use of vaccines. Lower vaccination rates will mean increased rates of diseases like measles, hepatitis, meningitis, and pneumonia -- and even the return of diphtheria and polio. Many of these diseases threaten not just the unvaccinated but also those they come in contact with, including babies and older people with weakened immunity.

And when few dozen (or a few hundred) infants, toddlers and kids die of preventable diseases in the next year or two, the voters and politicians of Florida will . . . .

Kicking myself for not getting brave and trolling for a braw Scot or Canadian man to whisk me away from this idiocy when I was young enough to score one. *sigh*

As a survivor of the measles during the '50's I can't imagine puttng any child through that gauntlet to prove a point. High fever, rashes, intense intestinal pain--what are these administrators and anti-vaxers thinking? That it's OK to drop below the herd-immunity level because they feel their 'rights' are being abused? What about the children who innocently go to school for learning and suddenly are in the hospital hooked to a respirator because their life is in the balance.
Sometime in the near future we'll get rid of these diseases, but now isn't the time and now isn't when you pull back the protections because it's politically expedient.
Lapsinbrainado and DethSatan are playing with fire and have no idea... none, zero and stop listening to social media 'doctors'--trolls with a degree avoidance syndrome.
