NYT - Gift LinkThe lawsuit is the latest fallout from President Trumps claim last month that use of Tylenol during pregnancy can cause autism. That link is unproven.
Mr. Paxton filed the suit against Johnson & Johnson, which sold Tylenol for decades, and Kenvue, a spinoff company that has sold the drug since 2023.
The Texas lawsuit claims that the companies knowingly withheld evidence from consumers about Tylenols links to autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The suit also claims that Kenvue was created to shield Johnson & Johnson from liability over Tylenol.
This lawsuit is the first by a state that seizes on Mr. Trumps allegations that the use of acetaminophen products like Tylenol during pregnancy could cause neurodevelopmental disorders. The issue has been a longstanding concern among some followers of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nations top health official, but the idea gained traction with Mr. Trumps remarks.
Yeah, so that is extremely not true. Texas trial courts are incredibly pro-plaintiff in personal injury cases.

The problem for Paxton is that his claims are made up. Which may or may not matter.
Paxton filed in a rural county because they're the most likely to believe Trump's nonsense.

(52,714 posts)The courts are funny that way. RFK, Jr. even said they're still looking for the evidence. It will be fun to have him deposed so we can watch how he stammers his way through an explanation as to why he made such a broad-sweeping statement against Tylenol when he didn't have the evidence.

(9,222 posts)Increased use of acetaminophen during pregnancy and increased rates of autism doesn't mean one causes the other. There has to be an actual link that identifies a process whereby acetaminophen has this particular detrimental effect on a fetus. Speculation based on acetaminophen usage isn't enough. What else is going on that affects the health of the unborn child?
For example, microplastics have become prevalent throughout the environment over the past 50-60 years. This could also be a source of the increase in autism.
There has to be an actual link, not just some crazy guy's belief that it's so.
