(19,491 posts)Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructs the IDF to carry out immediate and powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip, says his office after he called a meeting on Israels response to repeated violations of the Gaza ceasefire.
The decision comes shortly after IDF troops came under attack in the southern Gaza Strip, and amid Israeli anger after further Hamas violations involving the return of hostages bodies.

(19,491 posts)Israeli troops stationed in southern Gazas Rafah came under fire by terror operatives a short while ago, The Times of Israel has learned.
Troops returned fire toward the attackers. Palestinian media reports also Israeli artillery shelling in the Rafah area.
The IDF has not yet commented on the incident, which appears to be another violation of the ceasefire deal by Hamas.

(4,325 posts)If before, it was obviously a violation. If after, it was obviously a violation too. Only Israel is allowed to attack and kill during a ceasefire.
Obviously.

(57,771 posts)so Israel chooses to execute civilians rather than Hamas, as they have consistently made civilians the target of their operations. They could have, and probably did, confront Hamas militarily at the point of attack, but they couldn't wait to bomb innocent men, women, and children because they have declared even babies to be terrorists. Meanwhile, they continue their land grab in the West Bank, despite the fact Hamas isn't even in the region.

(4,325 posts)Note that Netanyahu has declared Israel can still go on attacking Hamas. When they do, I suppose Hamas would just lie down and agree to be killed or something. Ha! Right.
The whole idea behind this is to provoke Hamas into an act of actual self-defense and then claim they attacked the IDF. Then continue bombing and killing children and civilians which is the best means of getting the survivors to run out of Gaza in fear for their lives.
So "clever" and predictable. So sickening!

(19,491 posts)A casket handed over by Hamas on Monday night to Israel contained the partial remains of Ofir Tzarfati, a hostage whose body was recovered by the military in early December 2023, Israeli officials said.
In addition to not returning the bodies of any of the 13 dead hostages still held in the Gaza Strip, Hamas staged a fake discovery of Tzarfatis remains in eastern Gaza City in front of the Red Cross.
Israel has said Hamas has access to many of the remaining bodies and is dragging its feet in returning them, which it is required to do under the terms of the US-backed ceasefire agreement.

without impacting hostages? Does Israel have special bombs that magically miss Israelis while killing tens of thousands of Palestinians?
Meanwhile, the captive bodies that Israel released ALL show signs of torture, in violation of the Geneva Convention. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/15/palestinian-bodies-returned-by-israel-show-signs-of-torture-and-execution-say-doctors

(5,431 posts)Defense Minister Israel Katz said the attack crosses a glaring red line to which the IDF will respond with great force, adding, Hamas will pay many times over for attacking the soldiers and for violating the agreement to return the fallen hostages. Israeli outlets reported that Jerusalem has informed US officials of potential next steps, including widening areas under Israeli control inside Gaza. Israeli media also said the CivilianMilitary Coordination Center in Kiryat Gattasked with monitoring enforcement of President Donald Trumps Gaza dealwas notified of strikes in Rafah.

or this:
The order to strike in the Palestinian territory came after security consultations, the Israeli leaders office said in a Tuesday post on X. Defense Minister Israel Katz said Hamas will pay a heavy price for attacking Israeli soldiers and violating a promise to return the bodies of dead hostages.
The Hamas attack is a crossing of a red line to which the IDF will respond with great force, Katz said in a statement. An Israeli military official added that Hamas militants had attacked Israeli forces in Rafah, an area controlled by Israel as part of the truce agreement.

(14,035 posts)Unfortunately, Hamas is unlikely to disarm. I'd like to see Israel govern part of Gaza and show just what can be done with a multi-ethnic, democratic, liberal-minded form of government. Israel is already that way. I wonder how many Gazans would prefer that they lived outside the medievally conservative (that all true liberals should hate) prison Hamas has created for them.
Israel would have to have fairly tight security to keep Hamas from polluting the population in a liberal-minded (as opposed to Islamist arch-conservative-minded) Israeli-controlled section of Gaza.
Dealing with large Hamas infestations may require the Arab states to do the policing in another part of Gaza. The Arab states can be much, much tougher (let's say) on Hamas than Israel without drawing charges of genocide.

(4,325 posts)Or visit some Palestinian Citizens of Israel to get THEIR take on democracy, freedom of speech, equal treatment of all citizens, the right to self-determination etc in Israel.
Further, I can't believe you are openly advocating here that Israel get to "control" Gaza. That's not what Palestinians want and their right to self-determination and nationhood, just as Israelis have, should not be ignored especially by someone who believes in Western style democracy. You can't impose democracy by stealing a people's land.

(14,035 posts)Israel may need to control a section of Gaza to prevent far-right conservative extremists (such as Hamas and other so-called Islamists) from spoiling the Gazan people's lives, bullying some, executing some, and imprisoning the rest. I'm a liberal, so I admit I'm on the side of liberalism and against the far, far right conservatives controlling Gaza.
The peaceful, educated, tolerant Gazans are my priority. We can't have them subjugated by thugs and anti-Israel psyops-practicing fools. That would be bad for the Gazans and the world. A prosperous Gaza section controlled by Israel (temporarily) is valuable for Israel's safety and good for the Gazans who live there. It would be like a cast to keep Gazans from the clutches of bestial lowlife like Hamas and a chance to showcase liberalism.
