Trump's granddaughter gets exemption to LPGA event

BELLEAIR, Fla. -- President Donald Trump's granddaughter will be taking a detour on her way to playing college golf at the University of Miami; Kai Trump will make her LPGA Tour debut next month.

Kai Trump received a sponsor exemption Tuesday to play in The Annika at Pelican Golf Club, held Nov. 13-16. This penultimate event on the LPGA schedule typically has one of the strongest fields of the year outside the majors.

"Sponsor invitations are an important way to spotlight emerging talent and bring new attention to our tournaments and the LPGA," said Ricki Lasky, the LPGA's chief tour business and operations officer. "Kai's broad following and reach are helping introduce golf to new audiences, especially among younger fans. We're excited to see her take this next step in her journey."

The Annika already has announced that WNBA star Caitlin Clark will return to play in the pro-am for the second straight year; the pro-am will be held Nov. 12.

...sponsor invites are as common as days ending in a "Y". Every golf event, excepting maybe the Masters and the Opens, has them.

Gainbridge is an insurance company so it's no surprise that they would sponsor her (along with two other high school senior players) for this event. LPGA doesn't get a vote on them. She'll play Thursday and Friday in the big leagues, certainly won't make the cut, and she'll watch the final two rounds from g'pa's house in Mar-a-lago. She'll have he 10 hours on the course and g'pa will have bragging rights that she played in an LPGA event.

I'm sure it's just me but this falls into the "so what" category along with Don Jr. wearing a pair of brown shoes with black pants and Jared wearing a golf shirt somewhere with the top button buttoned.
