Kill the filibuster, and open the government without reinstating the ACA subsidies - that will turn out great for Republicans in an election year.

And once Dems have the trifecta again, they can expand the court and Ram through progressive bill after bill restoring democracy without fear of it being overturned by the MAGA court!

The more seats on SCOTUS, the less power each individual Justice has, and the more difficult it will be to form cohesive ideological blocs that vote in lockstep unison.

Governing from a fear of what the opposition might do, rather than with the courage to wield power unhesitatingly to serve the people, is shameful and deserving of permanent minority status.

If Dems expand the court, and Ram through progressive bills that restore democracy, protect rights, and provide tangible benefits to all the American people, they won’t have to worry about what Republicans might do, because voters would never again give Republicans the trifecta of power in Washington at least not in our lifetimes.

Effective, fearless governance, rather than gridlock and obstruction, is the way to earn permanent majority status.

Not sure what your point is…

My point is, if Dems govern fearlessly, rebuilding democracy, restoring rights, delivering tangible benefits to the people, without fear of what the Republicans might do, the voters will reward them with majorities for the foreseeable future.

It will be much harder to divide voters with fake culture war issues, when every voter can say “I have affordable healthcare!”, “I make a living wage”, “billionaires are finally paying more taxes than I am”…etc.

without the filibuster standing in their way!

They have no shame, and believe that GOD is on their side!---

Of course they could nuke the filibuster for THIS specific purpose only,
the appropriation bill that would reopen the government---
those senate filibuster rules can be written any way you please,
so the GQP could very EASILY reopen the government any time they like,
and with no consequences for any future issue whatsoever!

The nuclear option I’m hoping to heat about is the one where Trump, on Bobby Jr.’s advice, enters the interior of a nuclear reactor for ten minutes with no radiation suit to prove that you don’t need vaccine to ensure that you won’t get covid. It will give you immunity from prosecution, too, for as long as you live.

If people elect a party into the majority, that party should be allowed to govern.

Laws, checks from other branches and ultimately states rights -which the constitution is clear about, is what will protect us from becoming a permanent dictatorship.

The GOP is trying to use "the fillibuster" as an excuse to deliberately not govern. That's insane.

There is, obviously, nothing in the Constitution about the filibuster.

It's an accidental side effect of a rewrite of the Senate rules early in the 19th Century. I know of no evidence that it was the intention of the drafter of the rules. It was just a loophole that some clever person recognized, and it immediately became what it has been for the majority of its history: A way for a minority of states to frustrate efforts to free the slaves, initially, and then to actually effect the 14th Amendment, a mere 90 years after it was enacted.

than majority rule because it prevents marginal ideas from being passed into law. Not only 50% but 60% of legislators voted for it. Just like needing 2/3 to override a veto. Great ideas have a greater majority.

The filibuster only applies to ending debate on a bill.

Once that's done, 50% is all it takes. So 60% can vote to end debate. Doesn't mean 60% vote for the bill.

Are you arguing that minority ideas are not heard and considered in the House? That seems like a bit of a hard sell.

There's a difference between "heard and considered" and "minority veto."
