MSNBC adopted a tone for this that is WAY out of step with reality....saying "Trump's arrogance may have finally caught up with him, OOOOOH! He's at 39%," and I'm thinking LOOK at what he's doing, LOOK at Russell Vought's WET DREAM COME TRUE (making it MUCH tougher for Americans to receive Social Security Disability benefits), LOOK at SNAP collapsing, LOOK at 24 MILLION Americans potentially having their healthcare premiums double and triple...
...and a 39$ approval rating for Trump is supposed to be some kind of "comeuppance?"
The article's here: https://www.msnbc.com/top-stories/latest/trump-poll-approval-new-low-arrogance-alternative-reality-rcna240799
MSNBC calls the number "horrific," and so do I, but my rationale is that the adudicated rapist / convicted felon should be in SINGLE DIGITS by now.

(1,343 posts)He is much worse than Bush II and Bush II left with an abysmal rating. The party doesnt even speak about him anymore. Sadly, I think the only thing that moves the needle is when people are hit hard economically. Also, Bush II didnt have a cult like Cankles does.

(130,436 posts)because they are so emotionally and psychologically invested in their membership in the cult and in their belief in the cult leader. Jim Jones got hundreds of people to kill themselves even after he had been abusing cult members for years (the only real difference between Jim Jones and Trump is that Trump would charge for the Kool-Aid). No matter what kind of heinous misdeeds Trump commits, there will be some percentage of Americans who will support him - either because they don't believe he did those things ("fake news," of course), or because they think it's just fine that he did them because reasons. And there's also the principle of sunk costs - once you've invested heavily in something, financially or otherwise, you're very reluctant to admit you were scammed and walk away from it. People don't like to admit they were wrong, and especially that they were wrong about something they were completely committed to. So although the cult will lose some people at the margins, the hard core, ultimately maybe 30%, will never budge.

(40,938 posts)It would be interesting to know how history will report this era. Not kindly, I'd imagine.
Trump would charge for the Koolaid.

(32,211 posts)I don't like polls in general, there was one that had him at 29%, maybe it was legit?

(44,738 posts)A significant number of Americans are happy with his performance? Insanity. Obviously its so easy to hurt and hate. For anyones convenience a political party is all set to welcome you with open arms if you spend you days hating and hurting and being willfully ignorant.

(40,938 posts)The other thing you have to remember is his supporters share a common trait with him, they'll never admit they were wrong or made a mistake. Admitting you were duped is even harder to do. Let's see what his numbers are after Christmas. Maybe enough of the fool's gold will have flaked off by then.

(23,092 posts)I don't know, that's just me.
See, I scroll along, and I see threads that are not "my kind of threads" and so I just don't click on them, and go to the conversations where I feel I might have something of value to say.
Then again, going there to tell the author I'm not into what they wrote would be another option, but that's just not who I am.
Have a nice day, and thanks so much for sharing.

(3,581 posts)But I know the reason for that elevated number is the f-ing propaganda spewed by the so-called news organizations in this country. Hell, even PBS Newshour (the only news I watch) has republican boot lickers on to spew the latest talking points from Vought, Vance, Johnson and the rest of the Project 2025 shitweasels.

So, 60% disapproval is 60 out of 75, or 80% of the rest.
