Sweden Democrat youth wing leader calls for US-style 'ICE' police force

Denice Westerberg, the national spokesperson of the Sweden Democrat youth wing Ungsvenskarna, told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN) that she wants Sweden to start a new migration police force or 'Swedish ICE' to 'find, arrest and deport people'.

Speaking to DN, Westerberg said that she wants to see party leader Jimmie Åkesson take over as prime minister after the next election. She also called for Sweden to start a new migration police force, like the controversial US police force ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) which has been used by the Trump administration to undertake raids of workplaces to seize migrants and expel them from the country.

"We want a Swedish ICE," she said, adding that she would normally be against more government authorities. "But some kind of police force which has other powers and whose only task is to find, arrest and deport people would be good," she told DN.



23-year-old Westerberg, who joined the party seven years ago as an upper secondary school student, was previously a presenter on YouTube channel Riks, which was formerly owned by the Sweden Democrats. She has tens of thousands of views on TikTok, where she posts videos of her daily life and about politics. One of them includes a video discussing pro-Palestine demonstrations.

"Take your bags, go to Palestine and demonstrate there," she says in the video. "We don't want you here." According to the most recent Power Barometer (Maktbarometern), which measures which Swedish social media accounts get the most engagement, the Sweden Democrats and personalities linked to them came top on almost every platform.
