I received a letter that our Social Security is going to be $548 LESS each month!

$275 less for me and $273 less for my wife.

A little while ago I received a letter saying my SS will increase due to the cost of living raise.
Now I get this saying that it's going down!
Of course! It's Trump's SS now.

Did anyone else experience this or is specific to my situation?

“Social Security’s automatic annual cost-of-living adjustment is intended to ensure that benefits don’t erode over time. It is one of the key reasons Social Security is superior to private sector alternatives.
However, the current COLA measure is inadequate to fully cover rising costs, especially health care costs. That’s especially true this year. Medicare Part B premiums are projected to rise by about 11.6 percent, around twice as large an increase as last year. For the average beneficiary, this will consume almost half of their COLA increase. For some beneficiaries, it will consume their entire COLA increase — even as the costs of other necessities balloon due to the Trump tariffs.

So the actual check increase ends up being just a few bucks.

If you're one of those that hasn't ... Unfortunate. But you would be in the minority.

A far bigger problem, is the huge number of people that have seen their Advantage plans disappear entirely - and supplemental and Medigap priced completely out of reach. A lot of people are going into the new year with nothing but the bare bones Medicare.

Yes indeed, we get a whopping 2.8 increase and they take about half of that for Medcare part B, Happens every time.
For me it is almost half of the cola, my wife actually loses some on it as the cola won't cover the increase.

"We changed your benefit amount to give you credit for your 2024 earnings.
We did not include these earnings when we figured your benefit amount before. "

I retired in May of 2024.
It's confusing, I don't really understand. I'll request Reconsideration and see if it becomes clearer.

At least I know it's specific to my situation and not a general SS policy.
That's the first thing I wanted to know.

.. and we are generously allowing you to pay us back over time at xxx per month.

That's not actually what the letter said. Just what she learned when she talked to the SS office.

When Musk and DOGE were running things, she was terrified because they were threatening to demand repayment of all erroneous overpayments in a lump sum. I haven't heard from her about it, so I guess that idea went the way of Musk.

Your payment history and current account information will all be there. It should show you if there were any changes.
