How long does it take to get a gas meter installed?

Our new place is switching from electric heat to gas heat. The line has been put in and all that is waiting for is for the gas company to place the meters in WHICH when wife called to transfer the service over she was told anytime between that day (22nd) and the 31st. Really that is one of the things preventing us from moving into our new place. That and the weather and getting our movers in step to move things at the same time.

The furnace is a new high efficiency which is music to my ears however HOW Can we get in there faster?

Call up your service, be it ConEdision, SouthernCaliforniaEdision, or it might be a small municipal utility, and try to get a real person and a service order number.

Be nice. They're a monopoly so they don't have to be nice back, but also remember that the person who answers the phone is probable working their ass off at minimum wage.

And niceness will get you everywhere!

See if you can get them to narrow it down to a morning or afternoon call on a specific day.

Good luck.

They have to put the meter on, then check for gas leaks, then light the pilots. 3-4 hours is a guess.

the other poster is correct in less than 4 hours, MAX. If the line NEEDS to be run to the structure from the street, 8 hours MAX. I did this work for a couple summers while in college. Fun memories indeed! Oh I can tell some stories too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Monte Python's Flying Circus has had on so many people even this many years later. My 22 year old son recollects skits sometimes. It is intergenerational art and racy without being profane.
