This is apparently just the beginning in this Republican area near Naples. For one family they drove up in a tank at 6am and broke down the door of some family with guns drawn whose 74 year old grandfather had supposedly posted threats to ICE. In a separate incident, another person posted something on bluesky. They put both of them in detention centers. They just let the 74 year old man go back home after a few days but he will have a court case coming up. They pointed a green laser at the daughter and questioned her in a car and made everyone plus the children leave the house while they ripped it apart. If they start driving tanks in exclusive areas in Naples, we will see a bunch of rich Republicans raising hell.

(10,233 posts)CAPE CORAL, Fla.
A family's home in Cape Coral was raided by federal officers and cameras were covered during a Department of Homeland Security raid to serve a warrant to detain a man accused of making threats online Thursday morning.
This happened at a home on Chiquita Boulevard around 6 a.m. Gulf Coast News spoke to Anna Giancola, who owns the home and said they were awakened by Homeland Security putting a hole through their door.
"This is the country we live in nowadays," Anna said. "So, we don't knock on the door and say, hey, I got a warrant for your arrest. Let me just shoot at your door and put a tank in your front yard and go in and break in and scare the living daylights out of your family."
Anna said she did not receive a warrant until a hole was put in the door. According to Homeland Security, they had a warrant to detain Joseph Giancola Jr., her father, who was accused of making threats online.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that a search warrant was executed and Giancola was detained for threats made to ICE.

(3,048 posts)especially toward federal law enforcement agents, is generally ill advised. This would be the expected reaction.

This wasn't someone shoplifting candy bars. They made death threats, it's kinda serious. Can't believe I have to keep defending common sense. It's ludicrous.

(10,233 posts)Sounds like something my 90 year-old dad would say or write if he wasnt a Republican. This guy did not make a direct threat - more like a third party should do it, not that he was going to do it. It doesnt say he had any weapons when they searched the house, Much ado about nothing IMO.

(3,048 posts)but I'm not going to go to the mat arguing basic and obvious wrongs. I won't make excuses for people who do dumb crap like this.
It's illegal, and it's a felony. And in this current environments temperature, it's a really stupid thing to be doing and it will be taken seriously by the authorities. There is no common sense defense of that sort of behavior.

(2,263 posts)... they're not doing it because it's a crime. They're doing it because it's a threat against the Icestapo.
Meanwhile, death threats against Dems are "just kidding," "sarcasm," or "trolling."
Stupid? Sure. It was stupid for that guy to post that.
But those fascists are not enforcing the law.

(6,273 posts)The man is 72, how do we know he doesn't need a psych eval and have cognitive issues? Just destroying a home because an aged man posts threats is vicious.

(3,048 posts)no Tank. There was no home destroyed. A felony warrant was served. A high-risk entry was made because this was a high risk incident. And being 72 years old does not forgive such behavior. In fact, he of all people should know better by now.
Death threats are serious, stop making excuses for it.

(2,173 posts)right now!!! I posted VEHICLE. Knock off your attitude towards people on this site! I posted a video so you could see what actually happened.
Bernardo de La Paz
(60,320 posts)Though there is some extra info in the video beyond the first video, there is no video of a "tank" or even of the vehicle. Just the ram, which was in the first video.
I'm not going to stop my insistence on truth and accuracy. It is one of the things that sets DU apart from other sites and that difference has been remarked upon by commentators outside of DU.

(2,173 posts)are probably what's called police tanks.

(40,496 posts)It's sort of funny because "tank" was originally a word used to keep the development of these land battleships secret. The metal fabricators who were working on them could say they were building "tanks," as in fuel or water tanks, an answer so mundane it pretty much ended further inquiry.

(10,233 posts)Im the one who posted tank. We dont know if there was a tank or not, basically. ICE has been using large armored vehicles that have tops that flip open that is usually used by the military. I could see where someone might call that a tank. This was used at a peaceful protest

(60,320 posts)A police riot vehicle. One is seen at 2:22 in the other poster's video.

A tank. Would not be mistaken for a police riot vehicle.

Maybe he should have given this guy a bazooka before the raid. Blowing up an ICE armored vehicle and SUV or two would make great television.
