When they married, he hadn’t yet fallen down the rightwing extremist hole. Being Peter Thiel’s puppet didnt require overt religiosity - he just needed that raw depraved desire for money.

Indians/Hindus have many many centuries of their own proud culture and religion, and consider their world far superior to anything the US can offer. Usha and her family are extremely high caste and could have plausibly expected JD to adopt into their world.

They obviously didn't push it on him. Because that’s shitty.

Yet here he is bringing the not-so-subtle pressure.

Now he has presidential aspirations and she’s embarrassing as both brown and a “heathen” (in rightwing circles. I’m atheist and don’t give a shit). Guessing she either converts or gets pushed out. She’s as craven as he is imo. I have zero sympathy for her. She knew what she married.

Faith should be a private matter. His mixed faith marriage is not something for public discussion since it represents a conflict in their relationship. His comments and hopes for his marriage should be kept private.

But Vance is an opportunistic pig. It’s unfathomable to me how Usha has any respect for him… or herself.

It will just be karma coming back to bite her if JD throws her over for a “Christian” (*grifter*) influencer like Erika Kirk.

"For us, it works out now most Sundays, Usha will come with me to church, as I've told her, and I've said publicly, and I'll say now in front of 10,000 of my closest friends, do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church. Yeah, I honestly, I do wish that, because I believe in the Christian Gospel, and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way. But if she doesn't, then God says everybody has free will, and so that doesn't cause a problem for me.”

He followed it up with a subsequent statement: "My Christian faith tells me the Gospel is true and is good for human beings. My wife -- as I said at the TPUSA -- is the most amazing blessing I have in my life. She herself encouraged me to reengage with my faith many years ago. She is not a Christian and has no plans to convert, but like many people in an interfaith marriage -- or any interfaith relationship -- I hope she may one day see things as I do. Regardless, I'll continue to love and support her and talk to her about faith and life and everything else, because she's my wife."

Actually savvy. But yeah, it is a rhetorical trick, or alternatively, a lie.

Calling them his "10,000" "close" "friends" reminds me of Marc Antony at Caesar's funeral.

He is maintaining a slow burn in the incel youth male demographic. It cultivates pathos which will make his inevitable grievance worship so much more powerful later. I suspect he and Rubio are being played against each other and Vance's naked ambition is going to win out over Rubio's cowed (cucked) technocratic cowardice.

They’ve been reportedly on the rocks for a while. This will justify the divorce in the eyes of the base. It would not surprise me if the Erika Kirk thing is his end goal either.

“She was a ‘heathen,’ he had no choice.”

I sincerely do not think he would make that directed of a call, invoking her name specifically, without a much deeper motive and hopeful positive outcome for himself - and “Christianity” is not it - imo.

My parents told me about it but I witnessed that kind of behavior when we visited my cousins in Calabria back in 2007. One cousin, a devout atheist, was on the Town Council. when the local church had a procession, she was out there leading the way. Whether it was just politics on her part or "just in case", I don't know because she couldn't speak English and we didn't speak Italian so I couldn't ask her a personal question like that without an interpreter.

Belief is in following the precepts of the claimed religion, not making the religion bend to your opinion. Moreover, moving from one religion to another to find one who's distorted view matches yours, is not religion either. If one claims to be Christian but doesn't like the "wokeness" of Christ, one is not a Christian. One can stay or leave a a particular Christian faith based on its rituals but to deny the basic tenets of that religion, means, IMHO, you are not a believer. Religion in that case is just a crutch or, worse, an excuse for your bad behavior.

56. When #rump was asked about his favorite Bible verse...
Sun Nov 2, 2025, 01:51 PM
Nov 2025

... he strained his little brain for a few seconds and come up with: "Well, I think many. I mean, you know, when we get into the Bible, I think many. So many. And some people—look, an eye for an eye, you can almost say that. That’s not a particularly nice thing. But you know, if you look at what’s happening to our country, I mean, when you see what’s going on with our country, how people are taking advantage of us, and how they scoff at us and laugh at us."

Presumably, he was talking about Old Testament verses, apparently unaware of what Christ actually said about that: instead of taking an eye for an eye, turn the other cheek. He called that and other teachings that contradicted the Old Testament a "new covenant." For some pathological reason, people who reject all of it still call themselves Christian.

I gave up religion when I was a teenager, but Christ's teachings about morality have never left me.
