(60,965 posts)I have no problem with them making the point that the Democrats created and protected all those program she needs while the Republicans sought to get rid of them.
Responding with that and maybe a comment that she might want to rethink MAGA policies and consider that the Democratic party's policies might be better for her family could be more persuasive.
Attacking and condemning her when she is in a very difficult position is cruel and not helpful. I can't imagine being in her position worrying about feeding her kids.

(60,965 posts)ultimately it is a weakness. I think people, in general, are happier, when they act with kindness. Obviously not true of sociopaths like Trump.

(1,694 posts)They voted for Trump because he hates the right kind of people.
I feel sorry for her kids and would prefer they not starve (thats why I vote democratic), but I really have a tough time mustering any sympathy for this woman, considering what these people have unleashed. Theyre I did not vote for this is absolute bullshit. They did vote for this and they should fucking own up to it. Until then fuck them.
A lot of people are in the FO phase right now. Its important they go through it. Its part of the learning process.

(60,965 posts)quite happy that he would go against those they considered not them. That includes all of us, as liberals or Democrats, it even includes the old version of Republican if they are against Trump. It also includes anyone not white, LGBTQ, feminist women, and non Christians (with what is a possibly temporary approval of pro Netanyahu Jews).
They may be in surprise that many of the things the Democrats fought for are things they need and never questioned they could lose. It may be that as you said, they did not vote based on policies.
I don't know how many, when their own lives are so negatively impacted will question their own vote. On the SNAP benefits, they might at this point blame the shut down ... and blame Democrats. However, Trump's bill took a giant cut out of SNAP. They likely see this as the Republicans spoke of as cutting waste and fraud and taking it away from nondeserving people, able bodied adults who don't work and immigrants (who never got it). However, in her case, she needs several DEMOCRATIC programs.
Do I think she will see through the lies that bind her to Trump? I think it is always incredibly hard to get someone out of a cult.
However, I think for our own sakes we should continue to care especially when kids are involved. If you look at Democratic goals, you see that many are designed to help those who need help. Consider that Biden's bipartisan infrastructure bill built more in red states. While opposing Trump and everyone connected to him and fighting for everything, attacking powerless people who are victims does not help us at all and it reinforces her connection to her tribe, because she sees us as hating her.
If we are to be the better alternative, showing that we are not hateful - even to groups that have voted against us for a hateful regime might be the way to go. We should never allow ourselves to become the mirror image of the worst of them.
