Not posting link. I am posting this so people know this (do not misconstrue my motives).

I heard this morning from Chris Robinson that his dad had passed away on October 27, 2025. They live in Fresno, California. His beloved wife, Sheila, passed away on 11-18-2020. He is survived by his loving sons, Chris and John.
He was the founder of this important internet platform for Conservatives, and was a true patriot.
For us who were privileged to have had the chance to meet him, he was a kind a gracious man who worked hard making FReeREpublic a safe place for all of us.
He also served our country in the U S Navy.
I am posting this so people know this about a formerly influential but greatly diminished and waning website. Not putting this post in my DU Journal. I have no respect for the man or the site. It's heyday is long past. Now it is mainly populated by members who have been there more than 20 years. It is filled with back biting and name calling. It struggles every three months to get enough donations to sustain itself. It is the main haven of the QAnon suckers. Anti-woke, anti-DEI, anti-trans, anti-homosexual sentiments unite them. There are many anti-vaxxers, racists, misogynists, christian dominionists, (selectively)"pro-life" zealots, flat-earthers, creationists (including young-earthers), and bigots of innumerable varieties. In 2020 there was a massive purge of any members not orange cult members, but by now a little dissension against tRump has crept in, even there.

(10,333 posts)I used to check the site way back when I was curious about what they might be saying. Nowadays, there is no wondering - their hatred is widespread and out in the open. Im sure there are many more sites that are more popular out there and even more disgusting.

It's over 20 years since I even bothered to check them out

(72,515 posts)Good riddance, JimRob. You made the world a meaner, nastier place while you were here. Let's hope the place improves now that you have bit the big one. I hope you spend eternity annoying and being annoyed by such vile, squalid right-wing luminaries as Rush Limbaugh and Charlie Kirk.

(3,463 posts)I was actually thinking about FreeRepublic last week and wondered if it still existed!
I used to venture over there once in awhile to see what the loons were up to, but havent visited in years. The MAGA movement almost made the freepers look sane.
Does it still look like a geocities web site from 1998? 😆

(16,515 posts)She said if you don't have anything good to say about the dead, come sit next to me.
Well, I did say she taught me manners, not good manners.

Doubt the site survives much longer, as I seriously doubt they hit their funding goals every quarter as of late and just imply they did. And there was always some infighting but he kept that fire down, with him gone, think it will really get nuts. They may try to sell it, but, they won't get the value it had in the past.

(53,394 posts)When RimJob started that nest of vipers it was one of the meanest websites on the planet.
Now, thanks to people like Nick Fuentes and the late Charlie Kirk, it's comparatively tame - although it's still a nest of vipers.
And just in case you haven't gone there recently, it still looks like he's running it on a 4.77MHz PC-XT.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
