Republicans are fighting hard to keep the filibuster because it benefits them

Last edited Mon Nov 3, 2025, 03:57 PM - Edit history (1)

The only reason republicans are fighting so hard to keep the filibuster is that it benefits them. They know that they are in the minority in the country, and if Democrats get to pass popular programs, it is bad for republicans politically.

Also, republicans benefit from fear and division. If republicans can keep the country frustrated by making it impossible to pass anything substantive, they can keep the population divided.

The best thing that can happen to Democrats is republicans getting rid of the filibuster. Republicans take the blame for it being gone and Democrats get to accomplish their political objectives. Anything else serves the republican cause.

Trump wants the shutdown because he has absolute power on spending, and Congressional Republicans think they can get Democrats to take some responsibility for killing Obamacare.

No one cares about saving the filibuster. It is already gone.
