✨I will remember him (Dick Cheney) for breaking with the regime last year and voting Democrat.

I was shocked last year when I saw this note from Dick Cheney.
Today, I hope his family finds peace.

Shocking and disturbing that so many Americans didn't have even that glimmer of decency or intelligence that momentarily showed up in, of all people, f*cking DICK CHENEY.

I’m guessing that’s the case for most here given the way Trump has twisted our culture into the grotesque freak show it is today.

but an actual (vast) right wing conspiracy that Hillary spoke of. In a sense, they've done a continuity of command type of thing - inasmuch as there's always another bastard lined up to take a dead bastard's place. And as much as we complain about the dearth of
lefty billionaires putting their money where their mouth is - the way the economy has been parasitically warped, lefty billionaires are feeding at the same trough as right-wing billionaires (who are willing to spend money to promote their candidates). Trump is clearly stupid and barely present - but his backers are neither. Right wing think tanks and PACs have learned from electoral defeat, they understand that the body politic is weak (54% read below a sixth grade level). This is appalling and unheard of in so-called western democracies. It's even hard to get accurate literacy data for the US to compare. (Try searching on that - it's all over the map and IMO intentionally confusing). I suspect very much that is because an honest head-to-head comparison would lead to the conclusion that we are failing our poor and middle class young in all educational metrics. Federalism strikes again. At some point under funding education rises to abuse - yet there is still no constitutional mandate to educate. Then we have the tech companies that are given free reign to encourage phone addiction and nano-attention spans amongst our youth. While the billionaire class either don't realize it or feel they can run away.., they are shitting where they eat - and they will eventually eat shit and die. I'm used to eating shit and my tolerance is much better than a rich person's.

He did one good thing in his life. Good for him. But, there are a hell a lot of us who have been forced to live with the consequences of everything else he did. Some of us were lucky enough to just come away with just ruined careers and finances. Others are missing body parts, and have to deal with other consequences of the senseless wars he lied us into for the rest of their lives, including those who lost loved ones because of it None of them got to make it to 84---with someone else's heart. Hard to forget that....

You start to get a real sense of time being less. Perhaps as time clicked for him, he realized he needed to do the right thing last year.

I cannot lie. I did not like his conduct during the Bush years and beyond. In fact, I was very critical openly. But I will give credit where credit is due. First off, he raised a great daughter, and second, it took guts to come out against Trump like he did.

So, safe passage, Dick. Your scorecard is for God to judge; certainly not me.

Of the three times I was in his presence.
The man had no consideration for "peons" or even personal staff other than how useful to him they were at the time.
If they displeased him or couldn't "jump to it" (once when he was SecDef, he was underway with us observing a final Project test - his staffers became seasick), he had them replaced ASAP.
He was a right surly selfish asshole.

But one "okay-ish" thing I could say for him, he ultimately understood a somewhat open market Democracy protected the continuance his hunting lodge, caviar canape, and fine single-malt lifestyle much better than the zero-sum game of full-on autocracy or oligarchy would. So there's that.
