Today is election day all across the country. I'd love to go and vote. However, like for many other people, there's no ballot for me. That's because nobody is running for office in the community, district, and area where I live. There are no ballot measures, either. All around me, people are going to the polls, but there is no polling place for me to visit.
Odd year elections often don't have candidates or measures for everyone to vote on.
Sucks!

(1,406 posts)So frustratingly helpless. I guess the next best thing is following all of todays voting news and updates. Makes me feel a tad more involved.

(2,936 posts)I'm sorry there is nothing for you to participate in today.
My husband and I are going out to vote at lunchtime. I was just thinking about how much I enjoy election day and although there is only one interesting and important local race for me, I'm looking foward to casting my vote. Most of our races are uncontested and their is one ballot measure to allow an Olympic Sports Complex and more ski trails on State land in the Adirondacks.

Post on social media to raise awareness of a good cause or event, particularly on non-political boards about Democratic things because that's preaching to the choir.

On edit: I'm in the same boat, there's nothing on my ballot this year. But I participate in the above entities, and I also write the "election countdown" lists daily on DU.

(1,783 posts)I thought we had a sheriff election, but I couldn't find it on any site, so I stayed home. I haven't checked, but I hope good people won city seats.

(38,634 posts)I did vote for one, because there were no Democrats - and the choice was between a restaurant owner and a gun shop owner. I'd rather have a restaurant owner as mayor than a gun shop owner.
The rest of the Republican only races I left blank (or voted for the one or two who were democrats, when I could have voted for 3 or more candidates).

over *asterisk candidate opposition...
Next year we will kick out the GQP squatter in MI-7 congressional district---
some groups have already been running ads against him here,
more than a year before the 26 midterm--- I don't see how he can survive.
(This was formerly Slotkin's district, which she vacated to run for Senate.)

(1,410 posts)Today I got to vote in CA, for one item! Prop 50.
Think about that, Newsom called a Special Election for one damn item! HUGE risk right out of the gate, putting it up to the electorate was a HUGE risk.
Yet here we are tonight, with people still in line in CA to vote on one DAMN issue, and each one of them gets to vote.
Give us a night! We just want to top the Ice Cream Sundae.
p.s. don't think the Dodgers win was for the majority of us. Giants fans (me) and Padres fans were NOT happy. So at a minimum 50% of the State was not elated, again, GIVE US A NIGHT!
