There is very little on our ballot, a couple of Town Board and Town Justice seats but the remainder of the ballot was uncontested. There is a ballot measure that is expected to pass.
The No Kings protests in our area had very high turnout so I'm curious if the higher than expected turnout is a result of people voting to make a statement.

We love voting here in Austin.

(130,516 posts)There are elections for Mayor and all city council positions, as well as park board spots. We have ranked choice voting, and the four top-polling candidates are Democrats, so there's no chance a GOPer will be Mayor. I'm hoping for some changes in the city council, which currently has some people who would rather try to pass resolutions about Gaza than actually get something useful done for the city.

(1,096 posts)Very unusual for a midterm, let alone a mid-midterm.
I suspect the 'moderate Democrats' who are rumored to be considering caving on health care (if they even exist) are waiting for tonight's results. If they're waiting to see how the wind blows, I can predict with confidence that it's going to blow fairly progressive. I'm hoping for very, very progressive.
Unfortunately, I'm probably too late to invest in Heinz ketchup.

(17,504 posts)was described to me as a steady flow. Three hours in, I was voter 93, so about 30 voters per hour which probably will put final turnout around 25%. About 1800 registered voters, 2 to 1 R advantage.
Except for the heavy advertising from the vote yes to retain the Dem supreme court justices, there's been no other candidate ads. If you weren't already aware, you wouldn't even know there's a mayoral election in Pgh.

(144 posts)I've been working as a Democratic greeter at our polling place since 7:00 this morning and we had a line before the polls opened and turnout has been much heavier than usual throughout the day for an off-year election.
We have a full slate of Democratic candidates for Borough Council, Mayor and School Board, none of whom are expected to win in our deep red area, however, the most significant issue on the Pennsylvania ballot are the PA Supreme Court retention questions. We have 3 Democratic Supreme Court Justices who are up for retention and that is likely the issue that is bringing voters out in larger numbers.
Agree with other comments that the higher than normal turnout may also be a protest vote in repudiation of Trump. Hopefully, that is the case nationwide.
