She was a little late getting back from lunch, as she went and voted. She said the line was long. She was surprised, as this is an off year. So maybe more people are paying attention.

BUT, my county also has a new elections clerk who got rid of the voting machines because paper ballots are so much safer, doncha know. This is a large suburban county and the machines we had did print a paper ballot after you made your selections on the machine. You could check that it was correct before you popped it in the scanner at the end.
Now were back to filling in dots by hand with a pen. There is a machine at the beginning of the process that custom prints your ballot, because voters from any precinct can vote at any location. I went during early voting and even though the room was quite empty, had to wait a couple minutes while they printed my ballot. Hmm I thought, I bet thats not going to work very well for a big election.
Well see if it even works for this election. 😒

(3,541 posts)So a new polling place opened up near our house (this is only the second election its been opened). Dh and I got there about 4:30, there was a bit of a line. By the time we left, the line was snaking around inside the lobby area, and more people were coming in. Had to run some errands and drove past the place we used to vote and the line was out the door. For an off year election, that's just crazy!
