I just drove 1,897 miles to vote Yes on 59

I was in northern British Columbia enjoying catch-and-release fishing for a sadly diminished species. Paying as close attention as I could to the Prop 50 contest in California I knew that my vote probably wouldn’t matter much.

I grew up on military bases. I spent 18 years subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (it applies to military dependents-look it up). My Dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. My Uncle served on the Joint Chiefs for the Marine Corps. My Aunt, a WWII and Korea vet too, was briefly the senior enlisted man in the entire Pacific theater during the Vietnam War.

There was no way I could miss a chance to honor their legacy of service and sacrifice in the name of freedom and fighting fascism and dictatorship. 1,800 miles was nothing.

That said, it's too bad you couldn't get a mailed ballot to save a lot of extra miles.
