I was in northern British Columbia enjoying catch-and-release fishing for a sadly diminished species. Paying as close attention as I could to the Prop 50 contest in California I knew that my vote probably wouldnt matter much.
I grew up on military bases. I spent 18 years subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (it applies to military dependents-look it up). My Dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. My Uncle served on the Joint Chiefs for the Marine Corps. My Aunt, a WWII and Korea vet too, was briefly the senior enlisted man in the entire Pacific theater during the Vietnam War.
There was no way I could miss a chance to honor their legacy of service and sacrifice in the name of freedom and fighting fascism and dictatorship. 1,800 miles was nothing.
