Dang, I wanted to post an image, and thought this BlusSky link would work. Oh well...



But it doesn't seem to work, so here is a text description of the point I was trying to get across:

It was a screenshot of the film "Giant", where our hero James Dean was getting into the car and muttered to himself:

"Ain't Nobody King in this Country"

DangIt! Why can't we upload images on DU? So frustrating, I don't want to give a 3rd party my email etc...

Why can’t we just post pictures. Why do we have to do some convoluted route?

5. We CAN just post pictures, seriously. The thing is sites like Bluesky mask the real image with a non jpg URL.

On many sites you can right-click for a pastable link (like a link that ends in .jpg or .png or .gif).

But Bluesky links don't end that way and DU can't detect images without that. I have not figured out how to edit the link to get a pastable one. I can sometimes do it with a link from X, but not Bluesky, Meta, Instagram, reddit.

DU used to have an [img][/img] tag like some other sites do but not since the hack of Nov 2016.

I came up with some ideas to make images easier, but they eventually need a host somewhere, meaning storage/data transfer cost and risk of copyright suits.

Haven't given up yet.
