The Smithers Institute | The ILR School

The Smithers Institute
R. Brinkley Smithers, a recovering alcoholic, marshaled his personal and family fortune into the nation’s largest foundation in support of alcoholism research, education, prevention, and treatment – the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation.

I didn’t see it but heard the sirens. Lots of road construction going on right now in that area. It’s amazing. He didn’t kill somebody.

was just purchased that day. $250,000.00. So his joy ride will cost papa plenty.

That young man is lucky to be alive.

(I am joking)

Yeah, chances are I am acquainted with a family member. I always found that funny about 'The Simpsons', because I knew a few Smithers way back when.

The area he was in, 100 miles an hour heading towards Ocean or Bay, either way he’d be there. There are times when we have a storm that floods some parts of our highway on both sides.

I found it to be a lot like where I am from. (Outer Banks... I will never use that three letter thing because they are not some programming file, they are the Outer Banks... or 'the Banks' for short.)

I do recall the last time I was down there. We were walking down Whitehead St. and a battered pickup pulled up to the intersection at Angela. We stopped at the corner and the lady in the passenger side looked over at us and yelled out, "Fuck You!!" a few times before they drove off. We had never seen those people before in our lives. I understood that it was more a tourist thing, and being where I am from, I get it. The others were a bit shook, but I just laughed and waved at her as she flipped us off while speeding away.

I get it lady. But, as so many of my friends back home would say, "You owe them your livelihood. Do you really want to make them mad so that they don't come to your store/attraction? Money don't grow on trees around here!"

(We usually chose to keep our comments to ourselves, but making sure to share them with each other once the season was over. LOL!)

here, you and your family would've starved to death" many times.

Can't imagine 122 mph in any of our island settings. Hope they throw the book at Smithers. Too bad the Smithers Institute failed so ironically.
