Will any Republicans start stepping away from Trump after last night?

Surely some of them must see the writing on the wall after last night's elections.

I'm convinced they care most about their political careers, gaining & maintaining power, above all else, so in the interest of self-preservation I'd think there would be at least some distancing, even in small ways. Small steps so as not to anger their Dear Leader too badly, but large enough so they can appear to be "not Trump."

It could be a challenging balance to strike, walking that tightrope, but it's a rope they embraced & walked out on, so welcome to the circus.

10. No they will double down and go with whatever Trump says

If he’s says it’s rigged, it’s rigged. Meanwhile, what we should expect is a quick effort by GOP state legislatures to redistrict as many states as possible before the midterms.

This is why I can’t stand state senators like that in Maryland, who is slowing down the process in that state. I’ve heard others that are also voicing “concerns” about representation which is basically identity politics at its worst. Dems have to combat this quick. Otherwise, even yesterday’s victories will be short lived. Don’t pull defeat from thr jaws of victory next year.

Newsom seems to be one of the only democrats to understand how important this is. I have a feeling too many other democratic “leaders” would sit around and write letters to the president.

Briefly--very briefly--the repugs were mad at Drumpf, but they quickly lost whatever tiny spines they briefly grew. The Orange asshole is just as unpopular now as he was then, but I don't expect it will move them any more than it did then.

20. I don't think this will occur until early-spring

when the mid-term campaigns move into second gear and begin focusing on local constituents rather than fealty to trump. I don't think they can afford him pulling the rug our from under their feet until they feel confident they've moved off the carpet onto the gilded linoleum.

I do expect to see a broad swath of his elected loyalists to turncoat, but only at the last possible moment, and only if doing so assists their electoral numbers.

There might be one or two... even a handful... but it's unlikely (IMHO) that they will start to peel away from or abandon their Dear Leader.

To open the government. It's been a bad look for them. If they pass it on to Trump, he can decide if he wants to continue to be the face of the shutdown. Of course that would mean the House would have to come back in session.
