Spectrum raises red flag on cause of fleeing customer problem

Spectrum, which is operated by Charter Communications, continues to lose customers at a rapid pace, despite recent efforts to slow down the alarming trend.

During the third quarter of this year, Spectrum lost 70,000 cable TV customers, according to Charter’s latest earnings report. The decline comes as many consumers nationwide flock to streaming services, which allow users to watch TV shows and movies at a lower monthly price than traditional cable.

Spectrum also lost a whopping 109,000 internet customers during the quarter after gradually increasing its internet prices over the past year, frustrating customers.

The loss in cable and internet customers comes after it rolled out “a new and simplified pricing strategy” in September of last year. This strategy offers customers internet for a starting price of $30 a month when bundled with mobile or video services. Pricing plans for internet services are also guaranteed for up to three years.

you're unlikely to get them back. They got greedy and focused more on quarterly profits than customer satisfaction.

Nope. They didn't even try. I've been contemplating leaving. If they are upset about it then they should do something to keep their current customers.

They drastically reduced channels and promised better speeds to improve game play. I don't do game play. When I called to cancel, the person I spoke to said I had a bunch of discounts available. I just said this probably wasn't the best time to tell me that. Moved on to streaming.

Jerks.

to Spectrum. The price, I admit, is very enticing, but I know their history of raising prices a lot. I don't want to deal with that so I probably will never switch.

a bunch of junk channels they don’t watch and opting instead for true a la carte streaming. I recently dumped my Directv streaming and saved $90 a month just streaming the individual apps I like to watch.

two years ago when they were having a carriage dispute with Disney at the start of college football season. Huh. (Last year Disney tried to rip off DirecTV and this year it's YouTube TV.) I switched to YTTV and saved $70/mo for same channels. Then when Google Fiber came into my development I switched to it for much faster download and upload speeds and saved $20/mo.
Spectrum sends me weekly offers in the mail. They must be spending a fortune advertising to customers who will never return. I know I won't.

They should offer some sort of a la carte plans. I hate their bundles especially when you don't want half the channels.

and, yeah, this year the internet connection has gone down more than usual (once was caused by vandalism).

One thing they've done. I now also get some streaming services free (with ads).... Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, AMC+, Peacock, ViX (a Spanish channel), ESPN (I never ever watch sports), and a few more, maybe they're offering this as an incentive to stay.

I keep meaning to research what it would cost if I gave up cable and just used streaming apps.
